High school. The time of your life that can either scare you to death or make you jump for joy. You enter as a ninth grader, scared, because everything is new and strange. Even if you have your best friends right beside you, it can still feel very overwhelming for the first few weeks. You and your friends will finally figure it all out, at this point, you may think that you and your group will stay together through it all, nothing can separate you guys. You eat lunch together, find each other during breaks, and maybe have every class together.
Sophomore year finally rolls around. You and your friends are still pretty tight still. Except this year is a little different, you guys start joining different sports or clubs. You all try your hardest to get together every chance you get, anything from going to the local ball games to just hanging out and watching movies. You guys don't realize how hard it is actually getting to hang out all the time the way you did in the past.
Junior year, the year where you realize you have one more year to live through. Your group of friends starts getting smaller. You may have started out with six at the beginning of ninth but by now you may be down to four. The others have found their own new friends, they didn't mean for it to happen and they aren't trying to hurt your feelings, but they did move on. The friends you use to tell everything to have drifted away and now you guys merely smile at each other while going down the hallways when you pass. But you also changed, you're starting to find new interests that spark your creativity or maybe your competitive side. You may also be noticing certain people that can draw you in without even trying. You may now have a new relationship and don't get to see or hang out with your friends as much as you use to, they will understand if you skip a few friend dates but don't cut them out completely; when you and that certain someone do break up or get into fights you will need someone to confide in, to raise you up from your lowest point because let's be honest they've seen you like that more times than once.
Senior year. The big year all high school kids dream of. You come and see your class schedule and realize you have a few classes with at least two people you are friends with, you think "yes! I won't be alone!" But what you don't know is those friends will be your rock throughout this crazy, hectic year. They will end up being the friends you needed in your life all along. You will still talk and hang out with the others you were friends with the year before, but they are slowly drifting on as well, they have their own relationships, jobs, and other personal affairs that take up their time. Throughout your senior year, you will start leaning on those two friends you see every day. Those are the two that will stick by your side through every stupid decision, heartbreak, meltdown, and angry tantrum you throw. They accept you for the person you are no matter how many flaws you may have. Those friends right there will be the ones to make the weeks leading up to graduation so hard because you know soon you will have to say goodbye. After you graduate you guys will attempt to get together it may or may not work the way you want, but you will at least get together as many times as your insane life will allow. Those friends are known as your forever friends. Why may you ask? Because they are the ones that will always hold a special part of your heart.
Throughout high school your friends list for sure changes. Some friends are better off moving on from, some you just outgrow, and some find their own life among others. During your high school days please remember do not brew on the departure of a friend because someone better may be coming along that will impact your life even more than the last. Everything happens for a reason, so just go with the flow and get ready for the crazy four years ahead of you!
