Robert Morris University: what a beautiful place. Your rolling hills, gorgeous rotunda, and crappy WiFi are some of the reasons why I love you so. (Just kidding, ResNet. I hate you.)
But we, RMU students, come to know and love all the little quirks and perks of going to such a great University. Those things we see everyday are taken for granted when summer comes around. And with class right around the corner, I've been way too excited about walking into Romo's and getting myself a bagel everyday.
Every college has it's own unique attributes, and RMU is no different. (Heck, I think it's even better than what others have to offer, but hey, I'm a little biased.) Here are 11 signs you def go to Robert Morris University.
1. You can’t walk to class without seeing someone you know.
A blessing and a curse really. Being on such a small campus, you probably will see 14 people you know on your way to class. On good days, this will make you happy! Smiling and waving at fellow Colonials will only brighten your day even more. But on bad days, when you look like death and feel like death, you’ll want to not see anyone you know. Which you know will never happen.
2. The Starbucks’ Ladies are the best part of your day.
They complement you, know your order, and give you beautifully-crafted coffee. What more could you ask for? They always have a smile on their faces, and always ask you how your day is going. Not to mention, the coffee they make is ah-maz-ing. I swear, those drinks have a secret ingredient because they are not that good anywhere else. And trust me, I’ve asked. They promise they just follow the recipe… but, I’m onto you Starbucks’ Ladies.
3. Wheatley might as well be on the other side of the world.
Having a class in Wheatley is like having a class in space. That hustle up the hill to get to that building is the biggest struggle bus I’ve ever been on. Especially at 8 am. By the time I get there, I'm ready for a nap. (And I'll take one on those comfy chairs.) But I get there, and want to turn around. I'm exhausted. I can't do class now. Maybe I'm exaggerating (I am). But face it. Walking there is torture.
4. There are a variety of campus celebrities.
Steve? Tucci? It’s hard for me to imagine a campus without these people. I always forget that there are students from other schools that don’t have the privilege of knowing these individuals. Every event probably features at least one RMU celebrity and it honestly makes them that much better.
5. Therapets means skipping class.
Since we now have our very own personal pet (Violet), this may bring down the hype of the Therapets… just kidding. When these dogs are on campus, you would think they are giving out free money in the library. But no, it’s just a bunch of dogs. But these dogs are a blessing. They are so cute, calm and collected—just sitting there ready to be pet for the next three hours. And we love it. (I’m sure they do too.)
6. A Lock and Load is a delicacy.
This sandwich. I have dreams about this sandwich.
7. You probably have great calves.
If there is one thing about RMU that I could complain about, it would be the hills. I swear, Robert Morris is one of the only places where I can walk up a hill to class, and up a hill back to my room. It gets to the point where I have to try to contain my huffing and puffing so I don’t fill the halls with my embarrassing heavy breathing. But I mean, it’s also a good thing. Gotta get those Fitbit steps in somehow, right?
8. Each organization supports each other.
There are so many different groups of people with different interests and goals. And the great thing about RMU is that each organization supports one another. If one group is hosting an event, all groups support and go. It helps make each event a success. We all help raise money for good causes and bring awareness to issues—all while encouraging campus unity.
9. Bronze Bob is your go-to bud.
You can always spot the person getting the tour, because they take a picture with Bronze Bob. And as much as you want to make fun of them, you can't because it's adorable. And you have a picture with him too. This famous statue sits and watches as successful students rush by. You feel happy when you walk past him. Maybe give him a wink. Some finger guns. A hug?
10. Free stuff motivates you.
Guilty. Whenever an event advertises free things, you have to go. It's a must. Whether it's awesome RMU gear or free food, you make it an outing with your friends. Especially if it's ice cream... you always get out of bed for the free ice cream.
11. You truly have a second family.
RMU is my home away from home. (Sometimes I even get my two homes confused.) I always have a safe haven at school. Whether it be with my sorority, my dance team, my friends, or my professors... I always have somewhere to go.
No matter what you are involved in, you always have a friend at RMU. Anywhere you go, you will see a friendly face and someone who cares about you and your dreams. Everyone believes in each other, and I'm so blessed to have found such a great school.
Let's go Bobby Mo!
