You Gotta' Love Yourself

Sometimes we work so hard that we forget about ourselves.

Now that summer is here and school is over for two more months, now is the perfect time to change any bad habits you may have developed. Or just to learn to love and appreciate yourself a little more. The semester at school or time spent working can be exhausting. It's important to take care of yourself mentally, physically and spiritually. Taking time out of your day to practice self-care is extremely important. Besides, who loves you more than you? It's time you've done something nice and completely for yourself.

1. Surround yourself with nature.

Nature is one of earths most beautiful gifts. It can be extremely relaxing to turn your brain off and just walk and appreciate the beauty surrounding you. Breathing in fresh air and getting exercise is great for the body, mind and the soul. You get a chance to clear your head and feed your soul with adventure at the same time. If you feel the need, then go hug a tree or something. Show nature you love it.

2. Exercise.

Working out may seem like something you might not want to do at first because of the physical exhaustion your body feels after a good work out. Working out is a great self-care habit not only for your body, but for your mind too. Working out is said to relieve stress, and promote self confidence. Working out doesn't have to be extreme, and you don't need to go buy a gym membership if you're not about that life. Seriously, go for a run, do yoga or something. You feel productive and just great.

3. Meditation.

No, I mean you don't have to sit in crisscross-applesauce position with your index finger and thumb touching, doing deep breathing. (Unless you want to, of course.)

Meditation is a great way to balance yourself, and to just take time to relax your body and help calm any stressors you might be facing in your life. So grab a adult coloring book, or any coloring book, put a song you like on and just color. Focus deeply on the coloring and forget any other stress related thing that might be fogging your mind up. Do something that puts you in a calm state of mind. Put on music, shut the lights off and just lay down listening to the relaxing music, and be mindful of yourself.

4. Find a happy place.

Go somewhere that makes you happy and enjoy it. If you feel the need to get away from the routine of life, then go on an adventure. Do a little something that makes you happy. Whether it's going to the beach and just sitting in the sand with a book or sky diving off a plane, it's important to do something that you love and take in your surroundings.

5. Relax man.

Life's a busy place to be and sometimes we forget that the first priority is to take care of ourselves. You know what they say, you can't pour from an empty cup. It is important to put yourself first and know when enough is enough. Although it is hard to step away from work and life obligations, it's important to carve out a little time in your day to just relax, and be with yourself. Besides, you deserve it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
