Rooftop Yoga In Major Cities Offers A New Twist To Your Practice

Yoga With A Sky View

If you’re familiar with any of my previous articles, it’s no surprise that the practice of yoga is always expanding and growing in different ways. From beach yoga to snowga sessions, there is always a new way to experience yourself and the wonders of the world around you. One of the great things about yoga is that you can literally do it anywhere. Part of the reason why yoga has quickly started to resonate with people throughout the years is because its definition is all up to you. Yoga isn’t meant to be practiced only in the studio or only for muscular exercise. It can offer an escape or another way to get closer to yourself. We've taken an ancient art and tailored it into the best ways for it to fit in our lives. Busy cities are adopting a new way to practice and they’re taking yoga to the roof tops!

Rooftop yoga isn’t entirely new, but it has been gaining some more traction lately. In areas that are crowded by buildings and traffic, city dwellers can find a new sense of clarity in the skies. Traditional yoga allows us to connect with our bodies through our breathe and gain a new sense of lucidity, while modern practice provides the same and more.

When you think of practicing yoga on top of a buzzing city, cars zooming by, and horns honking endlessly, where does the zen come into play? It’s the same question we might ask ourselves when our minds are wandering and chattering non-stop. Finding stillness in any moment or place is kind of like an art. Roof top yoga immerses you right in the craze. You’re in a loud city, but just high enough where the noise becomes a distance buzz. It takes you and plummets you even further than where you would be if you were practicing on the beach or in a studio. Now you're moving with your mind and the city jingles that surround you.

Distractions never take a break or disappear. They’re always there and it’s up to us to address them appropriately. Just like a white noise, we can choose how the buzz of cars or mind chatter will direct us.

The beauty of it all is mastering how to move with it as one. The benefits come in many forms, but in this example rooftop yoga provides breathtaking views and a new way of experiencing your practice. Yoga is meant for everyone. All ages, all body types, and all walks of life.

Rooftop yoga is available in major cities and perfect for the common city dweller or even traveller. It might not be the best option in the winter of a cold city, but it is definitely something to keep on your radar for the warmer months. As for now, keep up with your practice at your local studio or even in your living room.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
