New Years is a time to reflect on everything going on in your life. It’s a time to get rid of all the negative things in life, and move on to the positive things. It’s an excuse to be a new person and to somewhat start over. 2015 was a year with many lows and highs, but like my mom always says- that’s life. Many people are going through a stage of the “New Year New Me”, and are setting high goals for their new self. Don’t get me wrong, I think setting goals and resolutions is important; however, most of the time people set goals that are hard to follow, and by the middle of January, the goals are no longer in their mind set. In 2015, I learned a lot about myself, and life lessons that I’m going to take with me for the new year that’s going to help me create a better me and not a new me.
Surround myself with friends that have my best interest at heart.
I lost different friends in 2015, mostly some of my high school friends, which was going to happen. Growing up, my goals and attitudes change in life, and sometimes this made us bump heads and fight, causing the friendship to be somewhat toxic. This year I’m going to try to surround myself with the people that cheer me on, only have my best interest at heart, and that are always there for me.
Become a healthier eater
I could lie to myself and say, go to the gym every day, but that resolution will be broken on the 2nd of January. So this year, I’m going to try to eat better, and go to the gym here and there. Eating better will not only let me lose weight, but I’ll also have more energy. In the long run, my body is going to thank me.
Don’t take people for granted
I don’t think we realize how great life is and how short it is until we lose someone very close to us. My whole town and I lost a great guy this year, and it's still a shock to everyone. This year I’ll say "I love you" a little bit more to the people that I love, and become a little less selfish than I tend to be sometimes.
Get rid of the voice in my head saying I can’t do it
This voice has been in my head for many years. It stops me from working a little more on a paper, or studying an extra hour for a test. I settle for average because the little voice in my head is telling me that I’m not good enough for beyond average. So this year, I’m going to try to get rid of that voice and push myself past average.
Be more open minded
The lovely trait I inherited from my father, stubbornness, sometimes leads to me getting into arguments. This year I’m going to try to get rid of this stubbornness and become more open minded, so I can listen to the other side of the argument rather than just thinking my opinion is right and no one else’s.
Enjoy life and be happy
I think I’m a happy person in general, but sometimes in my busy life, I forget how great life is and how I have so much to be happy about. I sometimes focus on the bad parts of life, and not necessarily on the good parts. I have so much to be grateful and happy about, and it's time I realize this.
It may seem like my new years resolutions are common things, but by doing a little bit of each, I’ll become a better me and this will make my new year so much better than the last.
Happy New Year everyone, Cheers to 2016!
