A Letter To Me For 2016,

I just wanted to start off by saying how proud I am of you. You have grown so much this year! You have taken risks and worked for things that I never thought nor imagined you could do. I am so proud of the person you are becoming and I am interested and excited to see what else the future holds. I also want to remind you of why/how you have gotten to where you are now and why/how to keep pushing towards greater things for the new year.

Every New Year, you come up with a whirl of endless promises and goals for yourself. These promises last a solid week, maybe two weeks if you're lucky. In the past, you've promised yourself that you will work towards your dream body, eat cleaner, strive for better grades, all the keys to embark on the "new me" journey. Every year you make these big promises only to look back on the year, disappointed that you broke such promises with yourself. It seems to be a never-ending cycle of disappointment on your part.

But this year, this year is different. It's different, not because of the big "New Year, New Me," broken promises you have made in the past, but because of all the little ones you did throughout the years before, along the way. You have now realized that you need to stop working towards someone else's goal, and begin to focus on being better as a person, to others as well as yourself.

Three years ago, you promised yourself that you would never let yourself get as sad and as low as you had been the year before. Two years ago, you promised yourself to let go of things that made you unhappy. One year ago, you promised yourself that you would discard of the negative people in your life. Those are few of the many promises you made to yourself throughout the years. Those little promises, have made you ready for this year. This year is different because you kept those little promises to yourself. You made highs of your lows, and you now have all the ingredients needed for a truly fresh, new year. Because you kept those little promises, you have surrounded yourself with happiness; you don't allow yourself to get upset, you don't let the media reflect the way you view yourself, and you don't surround yourself with negative people, you have made it. Truly made it.

So now, you go into this new year, and you keep fighting. You have spent years getting the ingredients right, and you have succeeded, so make it happen. Make this year the best yet, set goals for yourself and accomplish each and every single one. If you are ever discouraged, that's okay. You have surrounded yourself with numerous amazingly positive people who support you and who will help you fight. Don't make this the cliche "New Year, New Me," make this the "New Year, Better Me." I can't wait to see what the future holds for you. So, keep fighting because you're already half way there.

Happily Written,

Your's Truly

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
