There is so much about being a kid to be envious of, most especially those classroom parties. You not only got to play tons of games, but you ate mass amounts of snacks. We would transform tissue boxes into mailboxes so you could fill them with valentines, making it a day that could not be topped. I remember I was so excited in 3rd grade to pick out the coolest and sickest valentines to hand out. My mom even let me get Dum Dums lollipops to attach to each valentine card. We would start by stuffing our 'mailboxes' full and then continue on to indulged in sugar-coated cookies that I am sure rotted your teeth. Many kids attached mediocre candy to their valentines, but the big timers supplied us all with Fun Dip! Those were the kids I envied.
I don’t know when, but somewhere along the way of growing up we seem to have lost focus on what the day really means. People forgot about the fun, carefree, and lighthearted side of the day. The side where you spread the love the way you spread butter on pancakes. These days, guys are spending a whopping two hundred dollars on some girls and some girls are expecting that and even more. Trust me, I am not saying I wouldn’t like to get pampered head to toe, because hey, if you want to, then I’ll send an application your way.
It’s just that I don’t think that is what the whole day should be about. A bar has been set. Jewelry, dinners, candlelight and above all, bragging rights! If bragging rights are what you’re after, then please, be my guest. Celebrate the day the way you want to, and flaunt it all around! But my question is if you want to brag, and show the world how lucky you are why not spread days like these throughout the year, not just focus on this one day?
Chuck and Blair celebrated every day like Valentine's Day, so basically, so should you.
As kids, we were taught to share our love and spread it around. As adults, we either share it with one person or not at all. Valentine’s Day is not just only about expressing your love to those you love, but with everyone around you, just like we did in elementary school. Sure, maybe Timmy wasn’t your best friend, and he may even have smelled funny on many occasions, but even he got a ‘mailbox’ of valentines. So let’s stop being the Grinches and Kim Kardashians of Valentine’s Day and go out and give the Timmy’s of the world some love. And if you’re big time-- include some Fun Dip!
Happy Valentine’s Day. May your day consist of mass amounts of snacks, handing out some glamorous valentines and of course… spreading some love!
