Why I Won’t Cry on Inauguration Day

January 20th, 2017 is fast approaching, and that means the end of the Obama administration and the inauguration of the new President, Donald J. Trump. Although I am going to miss our good-hearted and smart President, our beautiful and wonderful first lady, and their bright and intelligent daughters, I am trying my best to keep an open mind with our upcoming president. Even though I know many will be mad at me for saying this, but I did vote for Hillary Clinton in November. I believed her administration and the democratic party were what would benefit my country the most. I, personally, am not a big fan of Hillary, but I believed she was the lesser of two evils.

Look how adorable and happy they are!

I guess they look happy...

This year, especially after this election, I am trying to live by the motto that change is always better. The changes made by each president have influenced our country many times and in many different ways, good and bad. Maybe Trump will surprise us and be a great president. Maybe with his business background he will be able to help the economy grow and develop to its full potential. Maybe he will pull a big “GOTCHA” and be like, “Wow can’t believe you guys actually voted me in. I just wanted to see if I could dupe you guys into actually voting me in. I’m out yo, peace!” *drops the mic, goes back to Trump Tower* And Trump pulls the greatest prank ever on the whole nation (I think this is less likely, but maybe it will happen).

I will not shed a tear on inauguration day because I have faith in our government. I have faith that our democratic system will keep Trump (Should I start referring to him as President Trump?) in check and that the founding father’s system will work. I have faith that the citizens of our great nation will not let division and oppression happen with “the wall” and all the hatred that happened after the election such as the hashtag #hesnotmypresident and the riots in front of Trump Tower. The hashtag, #hesnotmypresident, is aggravating because although people may not want him as their president, our democratic system has voted him into the presidency. We have to accept it and see what he can do for this country, even if he didn't win the popular vote. I have faith that the next four years will not destroy the nation and that we will come out on the other side stronger and more loving than before. Just like the hashtag says, love trumps hate.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
