Ever since I began my freshman year of high school, I knew I was born in the wrong generation. The music was more real, there weren’t cell phones, and my personal favorite, the fashion. I believe the 80s was the best decade for any teenager to grow up in.
Guns N’Roses, The Cure, Tears for Fears, Queen, The Police, and so many more brilliant bands were at their peaks in the 80s. Picture yourself going to one of your favorite 80s band's concerts in the actual 80s. There was less vocal manipulation, you got to feel the music going through your body. Nothing could be better. The energy was more real. No one had phones to document every song they play, instead people listened to the music and enjoyed every second of it. Rather than instagraming a photo of you and your friend that you took before the concert, you would’ve giving your full attention to the band. I bet high school dances were a lot better in the 80s also. Today, teenagers basically have an orgy on the dance floor, but in the 80s they danced there butts off appropriately.
The 80s generation didn’t even know an iPhone existed. Think of how drama free your life would’ve been without a cell phone. Since there were no cell phones, social media did not exist. You didn’t have to pretend you had a perfect life by posting everything you do on Facebook or have distracted eyes 24/7. “Sliding into the DMs” did not exist. Guys had to actually speak to girls in person instead of on social media. Crazy right? Instead of texting your friends or partner, you were forced to call them on your families land line. A land line? What’s that?
The perms, the bright makeup, the jewelry, the mix-matched outfits, the prom dresses were all so unique. They might’ve been horrendous, but everyone looked different. Nowadays, you walk on the street and everyone looks the same. Clothing nowadays are getting simple and boring. The neon colors, baggy sweatshirts, and headbands definitely made heads turn. If you dressed like that today, you may get judged hardcore. Thierry Mugler, Azzedine Alaia, Coco Chanel, and Giorgio Armani are just a few examples of some of the astonishing designers in the 80s.
If you grew up in the 80s decade, I believe you had the best teenage years. You were able to live your life to the fullest with no distractions. I wish I was able to have the pleasure you had.
