Everyone in a relationship has come to a standstill on date night ideas, especially in the winter. Once the cold weather hits it seems there is nothing else to do but snuggle up and watch a movie while sipping hot chocolate. Even though this idea is always relaxing, there are so many other ways to have fun with your significant other. These are some creative, inexpensive, and heart warming (despite the freezing temperatures) activities for you and your loved one.
1. Fall foliage adventure
Before the frost bite hits, enjoy the last few weeks of autumn. Take a bike ride on a trial covered in the colorful leaves. You can take a drive or walk through parks or a public trail. Embrace the last days of pumpkin picking, hay rides, and haunted houses. Also, apple season will soon be over, so visit an orchard and support local agriculture. Lastly, you can visit a museum or any other institution, some of them don't charge for entrance.
2. Snow Day
For this date, all you have to do is utilize a day where the snow keeps falling down. There are numerous things to do such as snowball fights, building a snowman, ice skating, and any other physical recreation. The outdoors look very serene and beautiful, even a short walk together can bring you two closer. Hold hands and welcome the silence of winter. Don't forget to bundle up! The perfect end to this date would be coming in side and warming up by a fire or heater and making indoor s'mores!
3. Host a holiday party
This can count as a double, triple, or how ever many people you want to invite date. Everyone can bring a dish or a fun game that each person can participate in. Maybe even having a cookie decorating (and eating) station so you and your guests can make their night even sweeter.
4. Christmas decorating/going to look at decorations
Christmas is a special time that brings loved one and relatives even closer together. You and your boyfriend/girlfriend can cut down and decorate a tree together. I personally have several sentimental ornaments that can bring me closer to others by sharing stories of how and when I made them. Also, indulge in each other's family traditions! If decorating is too time consuming, you can visit different light displays that really illuminate the romance.
5. Volunteer together
This seems like an unusual concept of a night out but these next few months are all about being grateful and giving back. Look for a local shelter, soup kitchen, or any other type of community event that you can spend a few hours working at. Volunteering is a great way to support your community and give you a strong feel of pride. You and your partner will bond over being so gracious it may even become a tradition. Ask some friends to join in on donating.
6. Movie night with a twist
Grab your favorite pajamas and get ready for a relaxing evening. You and your significant other can build a gingerbread house while staying cozy. After that, use some blankets and pillows to make a fort to snuggle up in. Once that is all construct pop in your favorite holiday or romantic movie. This will definitely keep you warm and it gives you a chance to unwind with the one you love.
7. Explore the world
Maybe there has been an activity or hobby you always wanted to try. Whether its yoga, dancing, or even a cooking class, you can discover this passion with the person you're passionate about! Broadening your horizon opens many new doors and leads you to a happier future. You never know what you are going to find. It makes sense to do it with someone who has your heart.
There are tons more ideas to spend the cold nights but this is just a start. I can't wait for my boyfriend and I to spend the holiday breaks together. We will absolutely love to try these new things! Just remember to stay warm and have a great time!
