On Sunday, April 10, 2016 the Golden State Warriors did something that has not been done by a team since the infamous Michael Jordan and his Chicago Bulls. The Warriors record is now 72-9, having reached 72 wins in a single season, something the Chicago Bulls had done to set the standards for the best record in NBA history in their magical 1995-1996 year. With one game left in the season for Golden State before the 2015-2016 NBA playoffs the question remains, will the Warriors reach that record breaking number of 73 wins?
Watching the Golden State Warriors match history with their 72nd win, it can't help but be thought that this team is made of something special this season. Steph Curry has lead this team above and beyond expectations, but will anything they do for the rest of the season really mean as much if they fail to make history?
On Wednesday, April 13th, against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Golden State Warriors have a chance to do something no team has ever done before. But if they don't, will nothing else compare? Will the fact that they are the first team in all of the NBA to not lose back-to-back games mean anything? If they go onto winning the Championship, will their consecutive titles mean anything? Will the fact that they are the first team since 1996 to win 72 games in a regular season mean anything? Or will the regret of not winning that 73rd game sum up this entire season for the Golden State Warriors?
The quest to make history is a dangerous one. The opportunity to fail just as prominent as the opportunity to succeed. The Golden State Warriors are favored to win the 2015-2016 NBA Championship, but reaching the magic number of 73 is something never done before and could truly be their legacy. One can only imagine what can be going through the team's mind as they step out onto the court. The possibility in front of them to either put their name in the record books or just think about what could of been.
