You Will Be More Than Your Self-Doubt

A little reminder to push through it all.

You Will Be More Than Your Self-Doubt
Huffington Post

College coursework feels like so much weight on your shoulders. I mean, you're supposed to do well in school, but also do a part-time job, but also join clubs, but also volunteer, but also get involved on campus, but also try to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is exhausting.

We all get insecure sometimes, we all doubt ourselves sometimes. Whether it is about our looks, intelligence, or capability to fulfill any dream we may have. You look back and remember awful things people have said about you that made you feel like you could not accomplish what you want. I'm here to tell you that those people are wrong, you can do it. There is living proof all around you. Look at Oprah Winfrey, J.K. Rowling, entrepreneurs who have just now recently made a product at 40. Everybody has their own pace and their own paths to get to their dream(s).

Imagine how good it is going to feel when you become the successful, happy person you wanted to become and you're going to laugh when you look at those who doubted you. You will not brag, you will not say "I told you so," but you will simply smile at the thought that you may be happier than they are right now, and happiness is something to cherish for a lifetime. So, smirk every time someone makes a rude comment at you instead of letting it get to you; one day, you will show them how incredible you can be.

So, be very proud of every single little achievement that comes your way. Say screw you to your classmates in high school and your college classes who you compared yourself to every day. Screw those professors who didn't think you could get through the field you are pursuing in college. Screw those people who have made you feel bad to be yourself. Screw those who ever doubted you.

You are so much more than you think. you can do so much if you put your mind to it. Everyone has their own interests, their own pace, and their own way of getting to where they want to be. So, if someone puts you down for not doing something their way; smile politely at them and keep a positive mindset.

Of course, there may be setbacks and moments of discouragement; like when you fail a test, have to retake a class, feel a little behind, whatever it may be. You have to take a deep breath and tell yourself that everything will be okay. Everybody has their own pace, and you will succeed if you put your mind to it.

There are days where you want to break down because you are trying your hardest, but that is okay. Everybody has those days: where you feel like you are trying your hardest, but it doesn't seem enough. Well, it will be one day. Every time you feel as though you will not make it, I encourage you to look at your past achievements or any little achievement that you have recently made and keep that in mind.

Beauty is a state of mind, and you can be beautiful if you strive to be the best version of yourself that you can be.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
