Why You Should Put Your Child Before Your Drug Use

As if you needed an article to spell it out.

As many of you know, if you read my previous articles, my parents were heavily into drug use. They chose their poison over their own child, but as I got older I accepted this. So, this weekend when an Ohio Police Department released this photo:

I was more then just furious, I was disgusted, and I wanted so desperately to be there for that child because I knew the fear he was feeling.

Many of you, I'm sure by now, are aware that these two individuals pictured above overdosed with their child in the car, but if you haven't read the story you can read it here.

Now, I forgave my parents, but what they did left an everlasting mark etched into my brain.

This child was not only put at risk but so was every individual on the road that day. This child will have to live the rest of his life with the trauma of this day, but also with the trauma that came every day before this.

Drug use is becoming all too common, especially in users who have children.

Firstly, you don't deserve to be parents if you decide to do something like what is pictured above. You obviously don't care about losing your life, so why would you care about losing your child's? Secondly, you're leaving your child in danger every second you're high on heroin, prescription pills, meth, etc. You're leaving your child scared for their lives, with no ability to get help at such a young age, you're leaving your child to sit with your corpses while your body rots and your child goes hungry. Thirdly, if you love drugs more than you love the human being that you gave life to, you should be more than ashamed. You should do everything in your power to get help.

There are plenty of people I know that are trying to conceive, but can't due to numerous issues. Meanwhile, drug users, who aren't looking to get clean are reproducing without a care in the world, especially without a care for that child.

Do you know the number of newborns, born per year, that are addicted to drugs because their "mother" couldn't bare to stop while she was pregnant? According to the Daily Mail, a child is born every nineteen minutes with an opioid addiction. An addiction a newborn could not reject, something they did not ask for. Yet, we still have women who think they have every right to destroy their bodies and the new life that they have growing inside of them. Babies born on drug dependency shake inconsolably, experience hardcore withdrawals, and have difficulty breathing, these symptoms alone do not describe the pain their feeling justice. These babies have to experience withdrawals because their "mothers" couldn't handle her own withdrawals. If you ever consider doing drugs, especially while pregnant, I suggest you watch this horrific video to see the pain experienced by a newborn child addicted to opioids.

Drug addiction is a common choice made, but it can be prevented. If you choose to do drugs after viewing horrific footage like this, then you don't deserve to bring another life into this world. These are meant to scare you because I was scared. I was scared being around my parents, that little boy was scared watching his parents slowly kill themselves, and that little baby was scared because he/she couldn't breathe. We didn't ask to have parents who chose their addiction despite risking our lives, but we can only hope to forgive over time, and urge others, to think of their child before they think of themselves.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
