Throughout our lives, we have all asked ourselves why certain things happen. Whether it was when we were four years old and we just learned the word "why," or if it was ten minutes ago asking ourselves why our lives are not what we thought they would be at this point. Either way, it is in our nature as humans to question why. However, I think it is time we focus on something other than the past and the generally negative aspects of our lives.
I know I am not alone in this why-wagon of despair. I find myself getting caught up in trying to figure out why past situations did not pan out how I imagined they would. I have also found myself wondering why current situations just plain do not make any sense. With all this wondering, I can't help but realize that overthinking and questioning everything is not going to get anyone anywhere. Asking ourselves why things happen the way they do just turns into a vicious cycle of questions, starting with why and ending with the infamous "what if," which we also know a little too well.
Logically, understanding our past and current situations helps us move on to what is next for us on our journey through life. Realistically, we will never be able to understand every single thing that goes on in our lives. Logistically, constantly focusing on the unknowns of life is something that hinders and lessens the time that we could be using to focus on improving other aspects of our lives.
Dwelling in the memories of past situations is where we often find ourselves because the question "why?" is probably one of the most internal and personal questions out there, and thus what we tend to be the most worried about. Rather than questioning why, we need to start questioning why not. Instead of wasting time pondering the confusion of life, why not embrace the unknown and dwell in it? Accepting everything for the way it is can be difficult, but it definitely seems to be worth it in the long run.
Naturally, we seek closure for abnormal and unfortunate situations. Unfortunately, we are unable to find and receive closure in all instances. So what should we do when we have an unending urge to understand what we do not understand and to reflect on what we can not accept? Quite simply, we should recognize that nothing ever truly goes as planned, that we cannot change the past, that knowing why something happened will not actually change what happened, and lastly, that sometimes not knowing the reasoning behind everything is actually better.
In other words, some levels of understanding are just more than we can or need to handle. All in all, it is better not to worry about the details of life that are unhelpful in the present situations of our lives. So stay snazzy and embrace the positive things going on around you.
