5 Reasons Weight Machines Are Impractical

If you are a gym goer, you know how many weight machines exist. A decent amount of people use them, and frequently at that. While they might leave you sore, are they really the best option?

1. They Work Specific Muscles

Yes! This is what you think you want. Just working on your biceps will make you stronger right? Well, using machines that work one or two muscle groups might bulk you up, but to build strength you should avoid weight machines. If you use free weights or even weighted body exercises, you can work more muscles and kill two birds with one stone. Plus, you're working your muscles practically when you avoid these machines. Which leads into the next subject.

2. They Are Not Practical Motions

Have you ever noticed how when you use a weight machine, you are usually doing an absurd motion you have never done in every day life? This leads back into the first argument: it's only working one muscle and that is because you don't use it in real life. If you squat using weights or even body weight, you are using muscles you use every day when you sit in a chair or pick something up. Extending your legs repetitively might make your muscles show more, but have you ever done that on a day to day basis?

3. They Neglect Smaller Muscles

This may not seem like a problem at all if you wanna bulk up, but the fact of the matter is that smaller muscles are also important. This is what makes them impractical. The muscles that are not being worked are mostly in the back. This can lead to pain and bad posture.

4. Easier To Injure

When using a weight machine, some tend to think they can lift more weight than they actually can. This leads to injury with repetitive motions that aren't practical.

5. They're Always Filled Up

If you are a frequent gym goer, you realize how many people flock to the cardio machines. Nothing's worse than motivating yourself to walk out that door and get through the doors of your gym just to see all the machines are taken. A little part of your soul just dies as you turn around and head back to the comfort of your bed.

Machines at the gym are helpful when referring to cardio machines. If what's best for your body is what you care about, than weight machines are not for you. If you care about bulk, then by all means go for it. Either way, if you want to use these machines then go for it, just be aware of the fact that there are better options.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
