So, I know what you may be thinking. I was born in 1997, I didn't really live in the 90's. However, my obsession with the 90's cannot compare to anyone who actually lived in this decade. There are so many reasons why the 90's trump anything we can watch, listen to, or enjoy in 2016.
1. The Music
From bubblegum pop to grunge. Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, NSync, Nirvana, Oasis. Some of the greatest genres in music history were created in the 90's and are still a huge part of pop culture today. I don't know of anyone who doesn't belt out "and it ain't no lie baby bye bye bye" when it comes on Pandora.
2. The TV Shows
No one can deny this. Some of my favorites include The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Saved by the Bell, and Full House. The cheesy story lines and goofy characters can never be recreated. They were so good, we still watch them in 2016.
3. The Toys
Oh yes, the best toys ever. From the creepy Furby to the innovative Tamagotchi. From the struggle of Bop It to practically cutting your ankle off on your Skip-It. Don't forget the mean brownies you made with your single light bulb Easy-Bake Oven. Great things, that's all I can say.
4. The Fashion
You knew it was coming. So much denim. So many bright colored windbreakers. Those badass black choker necklaces and scrunchies! Some of these have definitely found their way back into fashion today while others have stayed in their decade and for good reason.
5. Grunge
Grunge, grunge, grunge. It's making its way back into the twenty-first century in full swing. A term originally given to rock band Nirvana spread itself into fashion and eventually became a way of life. Lots of rock music, dirty hair, and baggy denim.
6. Hip Hop
Hip Hop found its voice in the 90's with artists who brought it to the forefront like Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg and Run-D.M.C. What we know today as rap was founded by these original 90's hip-hop gods.
7. The Boys
So many cute boys in the 90's. Justin Timberlake, Leonardo DiCaprio, John Stamos, Johnny Depp, Jonathan Taylor Thomas; the boys were adorable, talented and funny. How could you resist?
8. Last, but not least, the birth of the Millennials
How could one forget? The 90's was the decade of birth of Generation Y aka us! Not only were we born in the great decade of the 90's, we were the ones who set the stage for the beginning of the 21st century as children, teenagers and young adults.
