"You hit like a girl," "You run like a girl," "You drive like a girl," " You're emotional like a girl," "You fight like a girl."
The phrase "...like a girl" is deemed that of a negative connotation to describe the weakness in a person whether male or female (Yes, you read that right. Our own gender is used against us). It is used to praise the strength and machoness of a man and mock the femininity of a woman to shame and humiliate. But what people don't realize is that times have changed and we women have risen above all the things that we were told we could not accomplish.
You hit like a girl
You're right, I do. I hit like a girl because when the pitcher throws me that ball, I guarantee you that I will put my all in and swing like a girl, making that ball travel 100 feet out of range. I'll make a home run just like a girl would. Saying I hit like a girl does not mean I'm soft. It means you should be intimidated by my ratio of force and excursion.
You run like a girl
Indeed, I do. I didn't win first place in that hundred meter dash due to weakness. I ran as fast as I could and made my competitors eat dust. I run like a girl because I train just as hard as the guys do. I run like a girl because I am a competitor and I'm pretty sure all the women who compete in triathlons, marathons, and the Olympics run like girls too.
You drive like a girl
If you mean being careful and following all traffic protocol, such as driving the speed limit, stopping at stop signs and not texting while driving, then I must agree that I drive like a girl. That is not a sign of weakness. It is an act of caution and survival. And if that comes off as weak, then just remember the next time you get pulled over and receive a five hundred dollar citation, I'll be driving debt free.
You're emotional like a girl
I care for others because I have a good heart. I love to make other people happy with random acts of kindness, give to the homeless and volunteer at elementary schools. I'm the kind of girl that would pay for your entire meal when you don't have enough change. Having emotions is one of my best qualities as a matter of fact, and it should not make me less of a human being because I believe in things like compassion.
You fight like a girl
Ah, the best one yet. I am a fighter. I fight for everything that is ethical. I fight for equality, woman's rights, love, friends, and family. I fight for the voice of a child who is afraid to speak up. I fight all the temptation and obstacles that are present in my life and I make sure I win. I fight to achieve success in my life and reach all my goals. I am a fighter and I fight hard.
Telling a woman she does something like a girl will only lift her up higher because being a girl is being beautiful and being beautiful is strong.
