Ah golf, a sport that goes back all the way to 1457 in Scotland. It truly is a game like no other.
One moment you're acting this way.
Two minutes later you're acting this way.
But why is golf so different than any other sport? For example, If I stood at the free throw line on a basketball court and started shooting, even if I was the worst basketball player in the world, sooner or later one is going to go in. When it comes to golf, If you're 100 yards from the hole and aren't a professional golfer, there is a less than 10% chance of you getting your ball in the hole. What else makes golf so different?
The attire.
If you show up to play a round of golf in anything other than a collared shirt, you will most likely not be allowed on the course. When you show up to play a game of basketball, you can wear whatever you want and nobody will say anything.
Sand traps.
Imagine being on a football field and there is just a ginormous hole sitting right in the middle that you can't run in to or your team will suffer. Thats basically what sand traps are, If your ball is in the sand, you're going to have a tough time saying that you had a good hole.
How long it takes.
Lets say you'e watching a NFL game. If the game starts at 1 and everything goes smoothly, the game is usually over around 3:30. In a round of golf, if you start your round at 1, you wont be finished until 5:30 at the earliest. Golf takes a lot of patience and time. If you go to play a round of golf, make sure your family knows that it will be a while before they see you again.
How expensive it is.
In a sport like soccer, you need a ball and a pair of cleats and you'e good to go because you can play soccer anywhere. In golf, you need the collared shirt, the shorts, golf shoes and of course clubs. Clubs are very expensive. The lowest set of clubs are usually around $200, which is definitely a hit on the bank account. Golf has been called a "rich mans game" and this is the reason why. The costs to play golf almost exceed the actual fun of playing.
Golf really is a game like non-other. Golf is a leisure sport, you go with your friends and it doesn't really matter what you shoot because you're not making it to the PGA tour anyway. Professional golfers now a days come out of the womb with a golf club in their hands. It takes years and years of practice and patience in order to have a chance at being successful. Players like Tiger Woods have been playing golf since the age of 2. It really is remarkable how much time and effort it takes to play such an aggravating game.
