Why The Bills Make Me Proud To Be A Buffalonian

My First Bills Game Experience

Why The Bills Make Me Proud To Be A Buffalonian

So, after my first 18 years on Earth, spending the entire time living in Buffalo, New York… I had never been to a Buffalo Bills game.

This was only true until December 6th, 2015, Bills vs. Texans. The game was held at none other, than Ralph Wilson Stadium. We got pretty lucky with the weather, staying at a mild (for Buffalo anyway) 40 degrees.

Over the years, I had been to my share of Buffalo Sabres games, Buffalo Bandits games, Buffalo Bisons games, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed. Despite the hardships our sports teams face, us Buffalonians still have great pride and remain optimistic. When you live here in Buffalo, going to your first Bills game is basically a right of passage. However, due to my lack of interest in football, I have never felt the void of missing the experience.

Yeah, some people may say that it's just a game, that it's just a bunch of rowdy drunks freezing their butts off to watch their team lose over and over again. While this may be partly true, when game day comes, blocks and blocks of residential lots open up their lawns for parking. With the streets lined with tailgaters, all dressed to the nines, anything ranging from old school Bills jerseys, to the infamous Zubaz pants (pictured below.) Walking to the stadium was an experience in itself.

Walking into the Ralph, a stadium that holds over 70 thousand people in it, I was amazed by the pure spirit of all the fans in it. If Buffalo does one thing right, it would be the pride we have in our teams. When the Bills score, the crowd is filled with nothing but screams of celebration, and high fives all around. Post victory, chants of “Lets go Buffalo!” could be heard from blocks away.

Leaving my first Bills game, I realized just how proud to say that I am from Buffalo. It's not every day you get to be surrounded by others that are all rooting for the same cause, and the same city. #Buffalove

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
