Learning Snapchat in the new year

There are a bunch of things that should be on my New Years list of resolutions. Lose weight, exercise, eat better, the standard that is on pretty much everyone’s list. The thing I think I may possibly have a chance at succeeding at is learning more about one of the newer social media platforms, Snapchat.

I can navigate my way through Facebook and Twitter with ease. It is a rush to get the tweet to a celebrity answered by the celebrity (or their assistant). I have to admit, I still don't get the purpose of Snapchat.

Snapchat is a platform where you can video or take pictures and allow people to have a front seat to your life. You can subscribe to channels from places like National Geographic and Buzz Feed for fun interesting stories that change every day.

Right now the only thing that I use Snapchat for is their awesome filters.

These are some of my favorites from the last few months. There are filters for movies coming out, seasons and ones that smooth and fix some of the imperfect parts on your face, kind of like a facelift without the surgery.

It would be so great if the world saw you through the facelift filter.

Snapchat is also a fun way to make silly jokes like this one. Her name is Merry.

I went shopping the day before Christmas and this was in my Snapchat story, describing the drivers I encountered who were definitely NOT showing the Christmas spirit.

Whether I fully understand the importance of Snapchat, the fact of the matter is it is one of those platforms that need to be used by businesses and public figures if you want to appeal to the younger half of the world.

One new thing I recently learned is you can make your own special Geo-filter to promote your event or business. My sister and her family organize a run in Georgia to benefit wounded soldiers. I learned that I can create a special filter for the day of the event and for just a few dollars the people who run in the race can create a Snapchat story and publicize their event. How cool is that?

Keeping up with social media is challenging, there seems to be a new platform popping up every other day. Social media is the key to advertising your business or gaining an audience.

So 2017 will be the year I get my Snapchat on.

You can follow me on Snapchat, my handle is above. I am also on Instagram and Twitter!

Happy New Year, see you all in cyber space <3

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
