In case you didn’t know, the World Cup is going on, just north of the border in Canada actually. The U.S. women’s soccer team are semi-finalist, determined to win it all this year. Here are 7 reasons why you should watch them play Tuesday, June 30th, at 7 p.m. ET against Germany.
1. They win, a lot.
They were the runner-up of the last world cup and took third in the two world cup's before that. And the year before that, 1999, they won the World Cup. Not to mention, they’ve also taken the gold medal in the past three Olympics.
2. They are stacked.
Their starting line-up is always changing because they have such depth on the team. Christie Rampone, 39, became the oldest player to play in a Women’s World Cup in their third game of the tournament. Morgan Brian, 22, is their youngest player.
3. They are real women.
The group of women are down to earth, funny, and 100% themselves. They make funny videos and hang out outside of the field. Two of the players, Abby Wombach and Megan Rapinoe, and the coach, Jill Ellis, are openly gay. It’s refreshing to see these stars have real lives like us too.
4. They are strong women.
You could watch a movie or read a magazine Tuesday night, and have to look at 00 sized models, or you could watch some strong women who definitely aren’t no size 2. These hard-working players are all muscle, running up and down the field for 90+ minutes. Yeah, makes me want to lay down too just thinking about it.
5. They are inspirational women.
They are inspiring young women everywhere to live out their dream, whatever it may be. Check out this video they recently posted. #SheBelieves
6. You can watch sick stuff like this.
7. You don’t want to miss this.
This iconic photo of Brandi Chastain is from when she scored the game winning shootout goal against China in the 1999 World Cup Final. Yup, I can see this photo happening now after the final game July 5th, but perhaps Alex Morgan’s face?
