Going through life mindlessly is not a way to live, sheltering yourself in ignorance is never going to get you the most out of life. However, thinking too much can be as detrimental as thinking minimally.
You sit awake in your bed, your mind drifts off in class, you're in the most lively environment you can imagine but your mind is somewhere else. Your mind is magnetized towards the most stressful thing on your plate at the time. Thinking things out is very important and a useful way to approach and take on situations, but there is a point where the thinking must come to a stand-still. The thing is not all problems have solutions, not all situations have a right path and a wrong one, and no matter how long you think about it, you cannot find an answer that doesn't exist.
There's no rewind button in life and there are real repercussions for our actions. Life tends to have a domino effect where every piece is crucial and that creates a lot of pressure, but the thing to keep in mind is to try your best to not let the pressure consume you. If you think too much you cut out time from living. Thinking too much makes people feel powerless rather than control because it makes you lose faith in your own mind. The answer instead is to think out a situation, go with your gut, follow your instincts, and own it. Have confidence in your own mind and decisions. Stop weighing every option a thousand times and start to act more.
I am a big over thinker, and while it has always not been a disservice, I've noticed it to be more of a burden than a gift. While sometimes I love the thoughts I stumble upon, or that euphoric feeling when you finally understand a situation or see things from a new perspective, it is never worth torturing yourself. Thinking too much can create a very distraught person, especially when you start to overthink the most trivial parts of your life.
I'm not saying to be too hasty or act carelessly, just don't carefully plan out every step you take, it takes away the natural beauty of it. Spend as much time pondering and thinking as your comfortable with, but don't beat a dead horse, leave the past in the past, don't dwell, and don't be anxious over things of the future you can't predict. Just spend a little less time thinking and a little more time living.
