We have all heard the saying, "You must love yourself before you can love someone else". In our current society where people either don't care about anyone else or they care about anyone, we need someone we can rely on to always love us.
That person should be ourselves.
More and more people each year are suffering from anxiety, depression, and are subject to different forms of judgement or harassment. These things are difficult to deal with, but if you love yourself, they become easier.
The type of self-love I'm talking about isn't narcissism. It's beautiful and when you finally get it within your grasp it feels like a butterfly spreading its fresh wings for the first time. There is an entire change in your being when your fingers wrap around it and you pluck it from the elusive realm of your thoughts.
Self-love helps with nearly every aspect of your life. You're able to be confident in your strengths without being arrogant because you recognize that everyone has talents. You feel more motivated to succeed because you are your own number one fan.
In difficult social situations or even job interviews you are able to be more confident in presenting yourself. Loving yourself always brings back positive outcomes. You know yourself better than anyone else and are less likely to be hurt by other's opinions and comments.
So how does one going about loving themselves?
It is really much simpler than you would think. It all starts with recognizing what makes you unique from other people. Be it that you have a passion for this, you enjoy doing that, or you aren't the best at this but you still love it anyway.
These things make you, you. Accepting these things, sometimes even quirks, is the first step to loving yourself. Unique things that stand out are typically the subject to teasing or judgement first. Own them and you'll feel more at ease being yourself.
After you're comfortable being yourself, the rest just falls into place, You'll be less tense around others and you'll start to realize that they love you just the way you are.
The more you care about your own well-being, the more available you will be for caring for other people. You will also be more comfortable just going through life as you have a good idea of who you are.
Loving yourself in the end helps everyone in your life, especially you.
