Knit the stress away.

Why Knitting Is Great!

Have you been searching for new and exciting ways to manage your stress? Have you always wanted to make your own things? Have you thought about knitting? Maybe you haven't because it used to have a connection to grandmas and older women knitting in their free time.

But today, it's more than that. Everyone and anyone can knit. Forget what society says, if you want to knit, you go for it. Don't be nervous don't let what other people say or do impact your interests. So go to the store and pick up some beautiful, colorful, and soft yarn with a pair of sleek and strong knitting needles and knit away.

It allows you to be creative.

Once you learn how to knit, it is smooth sailing from there. Though it is a very repetitive craft, you can see your progress and it guides you to get the creative juices flowing. This then results in you learning other stitchings and knit complex items such as hats, sweaters, and even gloves. Knitting is a great way to start with your imaginative ideas. From knitting you can crochet and even make tapestries. It also is a great way to hang out with friends and have fun.

You learn a lot.

Not only can you learn how to become more patient (kitting is a slow process) but you are also able to learn amazing things from these older ladies. This past summer, I went to a little ice cream shop that was specifically for anyone who wanted to knit or crochet. They had group sessions and anyone was welcome. A few of my friends and I had a great time and we had great conversations with all the ladies there. Everyone was so kind and we got ice cream which made the whole experience better. The women had so much to say about school, knitting, and about life.

Knitting can help manage stress.

As I said before, knitting is very repetitive and can be frustrating so being patient is a virtue. Not only can it improve your patience but it is calming due to it's repetitiveness. It also alleviates the symptoms of anxiety by only focusing on one thing at a time. It is very interesting how art and crafts can help ones mental insecurities.

You are proud of yourself.

Once you finally make your first scarf or hat, you feel productive and satisfied because you made something on your own using your own hands. It's amazing how you can make your own scarf for only ten dollars instead of paying twenty dollars that doesn't even have the same love your home-made one has. After you finished, you have so many options as well. You can keep your art, donate them to those who need it, sell them, or give them as gifts. No matter what you do, the love that you made it with will be passed onto others.

Knitting should be a craft that everyone uses because it can improve so much in anyones life. It may seem simple or like it's for old people but it is for everyone.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
