Why I Wish it Was Spring Break (NOW)

I think I am speaking for every midterm-crazed and caffeine-filled college student in the universe when I say, CAN IT BE SPRING BREAK ALREADY?

Here's the thing. Yes, I realize we basically just got back from winter break and the semester has just started, but our brains hurt and we are tired. We're tired of classes, of our dining halls and of trudging through the snow to get to class (IN MARCH). I can't even get through a single sentence of this article without drifting off into my daydreams of beaches, sand and the bliss I am going to feel knowing that I have nothing to do over spring break but inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. And eat. Duh.

But before I get carried away with the thoughts of the wonderful concept that is no school, let me explain why I wish it were spring break. Not that any of you need convincing, I'm sure, but allow me to vent. I know you guys will be able to relate.

FIRST OFF, wasn't syllabus week about a week ago? (About a week agoooo) (I'll never stop making that joke.) But seriously, is it just me, or does it feel like professors were just introducing themselves and giving out syllabi? I go to class regularly, taken some quizzes and some papers. But midterms already? Geez. Find your chill.

SECONDLY, I need a break, okay? I need some time to process that I AM ALMOST DONE WITH JUNIOR YEAR. Where did the time go? Take it from someone who has been crying about how close graduation is since the beginning of freshman year- Cherish. Every. Moment. We are constantly criticized for being a generation that relies on instant gratification and lack of patience. Let us sit back and smell the roses, on a beach, with a fruity drink and a tiny umbrella. Too much to ask? I don't think so.

OH OKAY, also, when did it become expected of us to be going to school in the ARCTIC TUNDRA? This time last year, I was in flip-flops. Last week, my housemate was drying her socks with a hairdryer because the puddles outside were deep and evil enough to seep through her boots. Thanks Obama. (JK love ya Bams).

All's I'm trying to say is Spring Break is almost here and we are all in the home stretch. This coming up week will be the shortest and longest week of all time, but we will get through it. Aim straight for the light at the end of the tunnel. It is full of Netflix, sleeping and over-eating. Do what you gotta do, ace every mid term and I'll see ya'll on the other side.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
