A Year Of College, As Told By Gifs
Miracle Network Dance Marathon

The school year has ended, and many of you, like me, are beginning to look back on the rollercoaster of emotions that was the past nine months. Here is a summary as told by gifs.

THE FALL SEMESTER

As the school year begins, you come in, prepared, organized, and read to take on the world. This is your year, this is your time, and you're gonna crush it.

Your wardrobe is on point, and you're always dressed to impress.

And in the beginning, you are never late to class

Homework dominates every second of your life, because hey, it's important, right?

However, as the weeks pass, your organization, time management, and overall effort in school related activities starts to decrease rapidly

You learn quickly that you can skip class and no one cares...and I mean come on, you deserve a break...a lot of breaks

And as a result, skipping class becomes more and more common

And homework goes from priority one, to priority none.

Even when you try and do it, you never get anything done. So why try anyways?

Eventually, your social life becomes the only thing you care about...because college is about making friends that you'll have for the rest of your life, right? I think the word they use is "networking"... Anyways, your friends become your life

That is, until you see your grades.

And then, panic ensues. Frantically, you work harder than ever before in your life to try your best to fix those grades.

The next several weeks are sheer torture as you work to bring your grades up from the deep dark pit they have fallen into, and it is the hardest you've ever worked at anything.

And then, just when you think it can't get any worse, midterms hit. And they could not have come at a worse time. Mentally you're drained, emotionally you're on edge, and worst of all, you have no idea how to study.

Over the next several weeks you work day in and day out to boost your grades, you somehow survive finals, and magically, you have managed to keep your sanity...at least somewhat. Just when things start looking up, the dreaded mid-semester projects are assigned, and all sanity quickly vanishes.

Logically, you decide to procrastinate, because you need a break from the long, hard pursuit of pulling your grades out of the abyss of academia. But don't worry, it's ok, you work best under pressure anyways, right?

Eventually, that night before the project is due rolls around and, as expected, you don't sleep for the next 36 hours as you desperately try and finish the biggest contribution to your grade of the whole semester...and you regret your procrastination immensely.

Somehow, you manage to finish it with 2 minutes of the deadline. It's riddled with mistakes, but hey, it's done right? And that's all that counts.

In pure exhaustion, you sit back, relax, and pat yourself on the back for a job well done. You're entirely ready to do nothing for the next few days. As you sit back in your victory, you are quickly reminded by automated emails that your next project is due in 18 hours.

Grudgingly you crawl through the next project, barely scraping by in the face of insurmountable odds.

Finally, it's Thanksgiving break and you can relax from the torture of the semester. You've made it through the first 12 weeks of the semester, and now it's time to truly relax from the stress of school. Happily, you lean back, let your guard down, and take in the sweet aroma of education freedom.

Only to get hit with the biggest cold you've had in your entire life.

You barely survive the sickness, only scraping by with your life, and just when you've managed to recover, you're thrown back into the craziness of school. At this point, all mental sanity is gone...and all you can do it grin and bear the next few weeks of academic stress.

To soothe your insane mind, you spend every moment of the first week back figuring out just how little you can do to make it through the end of the year. You constantly average your grades and potential test scores to see what you have to do to pass...and with that, how little you have to do.

You realize that you can entirely ignore school for two weeks and simply spend the last 60 hours of the school year studying and make it out just fine. Happily, you enjoy the academic avoidance, and binge yourself on netflix. However, as you wade through the final weeks of the fall semester, procrastinating your nights away, you quickly realize finals are three days away and you haven't studied at all, and panic ensues.

Once again, you're up for 60 hours straight, cramming everything you've learned over the past 4 months into your brain...only to realize you understand nothing.

Eventually, you accept your situation and charge head first into the trials to come.

Somehow, by a power unknown to you, you manage to survive finals, only to pass out for the next week from the intense stress. When you wake up, it's finally winter break, the semester is over, and you can relax.

THE SPRING SEMESTER

Sooner than you could ever want, the spring semester rolls around. You claim that things will be different this semester. No more procrastinating for you! Heck, it was even your new year's resolution.

But, as predicted, the cycle starts again...

Your wardrobe goes from classy to trashy, and you couldn't care less about what your class mates think of your outfit...heck, at some point, you even become proud of those pajama pants...

Disorganization ensues again, and the mess of the semester starts all over.

For a second you think about trying to get yourself together, but eventually, you just say screw it and try to just hide your mess...this is the real you now.

Once again, you fight through the semester, taking on midterms and mid-semester projects, only to barely escape with your life.

Eventually, Spring Break hits, and you could not be happier...

You head out, friends by your side, and enjoy the break you deserve.

As you finish up the week and get back home late Sunday night, refreshed and recharged and ready to take on the rest of the semester, you quick;y discover that you have a paper due on Monday...in exactly 25 hours.

Panic racks your body once more, and you quickly explode in outrage toward your professors because they expected you to spend the whole week of Spring Break working on this paper.

Once again, you don't sleep for another 24 hours straight, fighting with everything you have to finish your paper, only to turn it in 3 minutes past the deadline...

Hastily and in pure panic, you email your professor 17 times, pleading with them to let the lateness slide.

And reluctantly, they oblige.

In a sigh of relief, you stand tall, knowing that you have once again survived the fight of school.

For the next four weeks, you are straight chillin' as you reward yourself for a job well done on all the school you've finished thus far.

I mean come on, you've made it this far, through this much school, and you feel invincible.

However, as you're enjoying the warm weather coming around, the late nights, the spontaneous road trips with your friends, and the freedom of the quickly approaching summer, you quickly realize that, Oh yeah, you're still in school...

As you anxiously check your schedule, you learn that finals are once again, 3 days away. And you...once again... haven't studied one second.

The next 60 hours are devoted entirely to studying, and somehow, you survive finals once again, even if it cost you your sanity.

You walk out of your last exam, chest puffed, fist in the air, and victory in your lungs.

You've done it, you've finished a year of college.

Triumphantly you head home, lay your weary body down, and sleep for the next week, only to awake to the freedom of summer.

You can finally relax from your year of turmoil, standing as a victorious warrior who has returned home from battle.

As you enter the summer, you are full of energy, and full of accomplishment. You've done it, you've finished, and the victory is oh so sweet. Nothing can hold you down. And the freedom is the untamable. You are the captain of your own ship, ready to sail the seas of adulthood. You're ready to take on the world, fully trained by the education system. In a burst of confidence, you set out on adventure to find who you truly are, unwilling to be tamed by the world of academia. You're a free spirit, and nothing can stop you. You're a seasoned veteran, and you think that as long as you don't have to return to school, life will be pretty good. The rollercoaster is over, and finally you feel as though you can ride the wave of life to a happy, blissful career and retirement until your happy, quiet death...

Too bad it was only freshmen year...

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
