After freshman year of college, every student faces the decision of going back home for the summer or staying in a deserted college town for two months. As another year of being in college passes by, you get bombarded with questions about your summer plans and if you have an internship or job. It's a difficult decision to make that family and friends tend to judge you on. It's very necessary for a college student to take breaks and find yourself, which is why it's OK to go back home for the summer and a totally healthy move.

Being home for the summer allows you to save money by having free housing and meals. It's very practical since the future is very expensive, along with college. It's OK to take advantage of your parents willing to help you out during the summer months by providing for your needs. They're your parents who already took care of you for the majority of your life and are happy to see you for more than a weekend.

Furthermore, it's hard to go home during the school year when you're a full-time student with a job. As a college student, you're in class most of the day during the week and spend weeknights and/or the weekends working. If you do get to visit your family back home during the school year, it's usually no more than a couple days or for an appointment your mom made the last time you were in town. Your family loves being able to spend time with you, and going home for the summer ensures quality family time that doesn't just involve eating a meal together along with late night T.V.

Plus, you get to visit all your friends from high-school or friends that you made while living in your hometown for 18 years. There's so much catching up to do and everyone is finally in the same place at the same time. If you kept these friendships for so long, then quality time is very much so needed.

What's even better is you get to travel to all the hometowns of the friends that you made in college. You now have the free time and a place to stay (with meals provided) while visiting a beautiful, new destination. It's a blast to see where your bestie in college grew up and she/he knows all the cool and Insta-worthy spots. A really fun idea is taking a road trip with your friend group and traveling to each friend's hometown, including your own. Bonding time, car ride buddies and places to stay all included.

Or, you can travel to completely new destinations for a family or friend vacay. The options are endless. Summer is the perfect time to see somewhere you've always want to, whether local or not. There are no time constraints or homework assignments to complete while away. You're free to enjoy a good time with family and friends. Summer while in college provides the best adventures.

As you hear all the time growing up, you have the rest of your life to work. Summer as a college student is the longest and most necessary break given. It's completely healthy to go home for summer and take a long break.

College is very stressful between classes and a job. This allows you to take time for yourself and spend time with family and friends before graduating and going out into the workforce. Once you get that degree, it will be all about your career and most likely moving away from everything and everyone you know.

It's OK to not have a summer job or internship lined up. It's perfectly OK and healthy to go home for the summer as a college student.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
