The other day I got to regroup a few of my best friends from high school to go out for a night. Some of them I still see quite a bit, but it has been a while since I’ve gotten to see the others and actually hang out with them. Being with them again made me realize how special our friendship is and remind me that high school friends are some of the best friends you’ll have in your life. No one can ever replace the friendships you made in high school and have kept for so long.
College friends are awesome, too, but I think that my high school friends will always have a special place in my life. Most of them I have been friends with since freshman year, so we’ve gotten to know each other really well over the years. They’ve seen me change from a quiet freshman to a (still quiet) but more confident and changed college student. Here we are, 6 years later and they’re still some of my best friends.
A lot of my best friends from high school were in my shop because I went to a technical school. So, every other week we’d be cooped up in shop together and we had a little too much fun sometimes; it was never boring, to say the least. On the other weeks, we’d see each other in the halls and at lunch and we’d still choose to sit together. I spent probably 90% of my high school career with them by my side, whether we were in school or finding adventures outside of school.
I never truly realized just how much we laughed and made fun of each other (in a good way, obviously) until we got back together the other day. For a long time it was so normal for us to laugh all day but now it seems like it’s more of an ab workout because it’s been a while. We laughed so hard my stomach hurt at points and most of the laughter came from making fun of each other and how bad we were at bowling.
It’s nice to know that I’ll always have a group of friends that I can count on in life. We’ve spent so much time together over the years that we know each other better than a lot of people. We’ve been through so much over the years and it’s made us stronger in the end. I wouldn’t change these friendships for the world because it’s so special to me.
It seems like no matter what happens in our lives and no matter how long it’s been since we’ve talked, we always come back to each other. It never seems like it’s been so long since we’ve seen each other because we catch right back up like we just talked the day before. No matter where we go in life, I’m confident my friends and I will always be there for each other and we’ll never be too busy to catch up again.
