Hey Upper East Siders, Gossip Girl here… If you read that in Kristen Bell’s voice, then you may very likely be a die-hard Gossip Girl fan! Have no fear, though, because so am I! It is very easy to fall in love with the show from the pilot episode when all of the characters were merely just juniors in high school. What is it exactly that makes Gossip Girl so great, though? Well…
1. The Epic Fashion.
The show highlights many extravagant designers such as Christian Louboutin, Rebecca Taylor, and Emilio Pucci. In addition, it shows “higher end” clothing such as a $1075 silk sleepwear set. Yet, the show also demonstrates highly attainable outfits like a $100 Ted Baker. Whatever your style or price range, Gossip Girl will have an outfit idea to die for!
2. The Competitiveness.
Whether they were fighting over boys, college, sports, or the latter, the characters in Gossip Girl were fiercely competitive. Sometimes it was healthy… sometimes it was not. Either way, the competition between characters always kept the audience on their toes just dying to know what would happen next.
3. The Hot Boys.
Chuck Bass. Dan Humphrey. Nate Archibald. Carter Baizen. Tripp van der Bilt. Louis Grimaldi. Colin Forrester. Even Rufus Humphrey. Did I miss anyone?
4. It's easily quotable.
It may not be as quotable as Mean Girls or She's The Man but there are still plenty of amusing, heartwarming, and serious quotes throughout Gossip Girl.
-"Some might call this a fustercluck. But on the Upper East Side, we call it Sunday afternoon.”
-"You know my mom: if it's not broke, break it.”
-"A hot lifeguard is like kleenex! Use once and throw away. You could ask for a better rebound!"
-"So if you want peace, always be prepared for war."
-"Spotted - Chuck Bass losing something nobody even knew he had. His heart."
5. All six seasons are available on Netflix.
Yes, you read that correctly! All six seasons, all 121 episodes are on Netflix. It is incredibly easy to access and binge watch. If you don’t have a Netflix account, then use a friend’s! You’re bound to know at least five other people who have an account.
6. Blake Lively.
I am sure everyone will admit that Blake Lively is perfection. How could she not be with her perfect blonde hair, stunning smile, and bubbly personality? Since she is one of the main characters in Gossip Girl, the show is 110 times more enjoyable to watch!
7. The heartwarming love stories.
There are many traditional, but amazing love stories in Gossip Girl! Whether it be Blair and Chuck, Serena and Dan, or Eleanor Waldorf and Cyrus Rose, there is a love story for you to gush over! In addition to romance, though, there are other types of love stories like the one between Blair and her father, Harold Waldorf. The one romance that I will never understand, though, is the one between Lily van der Woodsen and her ex-husband, William, who gave her fake cancer. To each their own, I guess!
8. It exemplifies true friendship.
Obviously, everyone’s favorite best friendship is between Blair and Serena but there were many others that can be placed on a pedestal! For instance, Vanessa and Dan, Jenny and Eric, or Chuck and Nate. Although every friendship has its quirks, they are overall on point!
9. New York City.
Gossip Girl takes place in the best city in the country, New York City. Specifically, it takes place on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Could that be any cooler? It is full of hot spots such as Central Park and Fifth Avenue. Plus, where Gossip Girl takes place is only a 20-minute walk from Dylan’s Candy Bar in real life!
10. Shows technology evolution.
If you watch Gossip Girl from the beginning, you will be taken back in time to 2007. You will start off seeing little flip phones that do not have a keyboard for texting but, in their defense, it was cool to have a T-Mobile Sidekick or a Blackberry Storm in that day and age. You can really see the hilarious evolution of technology throughout the show. Who doesn’t love to go back and make fun of the phones we thought were super cool when we were 11? I know I get a kick out reminiscing on my old LG Lotus! By the end of the series, though, the characters caught up to today’s century with their iPads and iPhones.
11. The terrible parenting.
Let’s be real, the parents in Gossip Girl could care less what their kids got themselves into. They let them drink alcohol underage, go out to parties constantly, spend endless amounts of money, and realistically, live my dream life! Remember when Serena trashed her parents' apartment and flew to Barcelona the next day? I’m sure all of us wish we had as laid back of parents as Lily van de Woodsen/Bass/Humphrey or Howard Archibald.
12. The ending.
If you have seen all of Gossip Girl, you know exactly what I am talking about! If not, you better go watch it to find out…
