Usually I wouldn’t approve of comparing women to domesticated animals, but I think cats have set a good example that would benefit most girls living in this modern age of self-loathing and serial dating.
The world tells us that dog is man’s best friend. And there are good reasons for this. Dogs give and need a constant flow of love and attention. When dogs lose their companionship — even just temporarily — they get depressed and wilt like sad, dying flowers. Basically, dogs are attention whores. A dog would do anything for an owner or friend.
What kind of life would that be? A life where outside influences dictate your happiness and the actions of others determine your emotions, and that is not a life. That is an empty and miserable existence.
Don’t be like a dog. Be like a cat. Why? Because cats don’t give a shit.
Cats are independent loners and very happy to be so. They are completely satisfied and content with themselves, and they are always well aware of how truly awesome they are, no matter the quality of the company that may surround them. Felines are perfectly happy alone and don’t depend on outward affection in order to feel good. Basically, cats are in love with themselves and that’s the way it should be.
There is a lot to be learned about love from our feline friends. Self-love is essential. You will never be happy if you don’t love yourself. You have to learn how to love yourself entirely—every little flaw on your body, every facet of your personality, and every little thought that flutters through your head. Easier said than done, though, right? Correct. It took me 20-something years to learn how to love myself. And it’s an ongoing process that can always grow, fluctuate, and change, but it never stops.
If you let someone else’s stars light up your sky, then you aren’t going to know how to turn on the light once you’re all alone in the dark.
Fall in love with yourself like a cat. You’ll never need anybody else to love you. You’ll never have to depend on a man or woman, for love and acceptance; you’ll only have to depend on yourself. And this helps you, this gives you an advantage; self-sufficient love ensures your survival.
Be selfish like a cat. Being selfish is not always a bad thing. Do what you want to do and do those things out of unconditional love for yourself. Find what makes you happy and let it surround you and take you higher. The more you focus love on yourself, the higher you become, and when you’re naturally high, no one else can touch you. You’re free.
You are your own before you are anyone else’s. Live for yourself, not for somebody else. Don’t be like a dog. Be like a cat.
