I'm Not A Huge Football Fan, BUT This Year Was Different

Sunday, February 4, 2018, made history for the city of Philadelphia. After decades of Super Bowl wins being dangled in front of us, we finally have one of our own to boast about, thanks to QB Nick Foles and their 'One Team, One City' mentality.

I also think that the overwhelming number of extra church-goers that donned their Eagle's garb early on in the day may have had something to do with it. You know who you are, see ya at Easter.

To give Tom Brady his credit, he almost had us. During those agonizingly long two minutes, every die-hard and converted Eagle's fan held their breath as Brady gained yard by yard. And then it happened. Philadelphia won, shocking the world. I'm sure we all had a moment like this one while watching:

Now, I'm not a huge follower of football, as many of the people who watched the Super Bowl last night can understand. Honestly. my family has not followed the sport at all for most of the year for reasons you can probably guess. But when your home team makes it that far in a championship, the excitement is too infectious to ignore.

It is also hard to ignore when the 'impartial commentator' is making it nearly impossible for you to have faith in your team. We ALL know who I am talking about, Brady's personal cheerleader with a microphone. Come on dude, you're entitled to your opinion, but don't announce it on the air.

But once that clock ran out, I don't think anybody cared. Everyone watching the game at Xfinity Live, or at their homes in Philly, poured out into the streets. Philly fans proved exactly how much passion they had been holding onto. Fireworks were launched, traffic poles were climbed, awnings were collapsed, cars were tipped and torched. I personally do not live that close to Philly, but I could still hear the party as it ensued. I swear when the sun came up this morning, there was a tint of green among the colors.

Deserving honorable mention: Justin Timberlake gave a...performance. I've seen better, I've seen worse. The commercials were so-so. However, I will forever have the image of Eli Manning lifting Odell Beckham Dirty Dancingstyle. Sorry guys, good effort, but you are NOT Patrick Swayze or Jennifer Grey.

We had our doubters, but we came out as top dog. There will be people that say we don't deserve it. But maybe it isn't about deserving. Maybe it's about wanting. When this city and it's fans want something hard enough, it happens. Congrats Philly, you earned it!

One last thing.....

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
