Out of 365 days, 12 months, 52 weeks we have in a year, one single day is set aside to celebrate the most important man in our lives. Just like Mother's Day, Father's Day should not be the only time to thank and recognize these awesome men for all that they do and who they are. Everyday we should remind our Dads how important, beneficial and influential they are in our lives.
Simply put, my dad absolutely rocks. And he rocks every day, week and month of the year.
And here's why:
1. Dads always set an example for how his children should be treated
Because our Dads love us so much, they continuously treat us with kindness and respect. So naturally, that sets some high standards. We know exactly what to expect, what kindness truly is, and what kind of love we should accept.
2. Dad taught us/coached us/cheered us on in sports
My Dad loves sports. Since I can remember he was always the most involved, supportive, and patient man when it came to my sporting abilities (which are not very good). I learned so much on and off the court from the man whom loves the game.
3. Our dads would beat anyone up for us
Broken heart? Bully? Unfair treatment? Our Dads have got it covered. He always has his boxing gloves ready, and it's most definitely always a TKO. He will protect from any enemy.
4. The dad jokes, obviously
I can recall hundreds of times where I was upset or let down, and my dad was right by my side cracking the most cheesy jokes that were so corny, I had to laugh. It always cheers me up, and I can't help but immediately forget about whatever was upsetting me.
5. They always partake in our hobbies
I must admit, I'm a "girly-girl" and have always been prone to dolls, dresses, and tea parties. When I was younger, my Dad dressed up and had a "tea party" with me. Thinking back, he probably did not enjoy that as much as I thought he did at the time, but he did it anyways just to spend time with me and make me smile. My Dad watched me cheer for every game, went to every girly event, and never complained.
6. Dads make the most fun, creative meals
Dads can be extremely inventive and creative. This also applies to his cooking skills. When Mom goes out of town, it's time for Dad to get creative. So, he always whips up something you've never heard of that always turns out to be a crowd favorite and a new tradition.
7. Dads will always fix what's broken
Dads are always notorious for being handymen. From a broken sink to a broken heart, he has acquired just the right set of tools. He would do anything to put everything back together again. And, he always does without hesitation.
8. They are never picky when receiving gifts
Every time I ask my dad what he wants for a present, he gives me a very broad, vague list. Every. Single. Time. But, no matter what I end up buying, he is always the most gracious receiver. I could buy him a hot pink dress, and he would probably be content with it. Dads, like many males, don't hone in too much on what is bought--which makes everyone happy.
9. They are professional "nap takers"
Dads can sleep anywhere. And I mean anywhere. If there was an Olympic sport of napping, I'm pretty sure it would be completely comprised of Dads across America. It's impressive, really. What a talent they have.
10. As much as they partake in our hobbies, they teach us how to have fun trying out their hobbies too
Outdoor activities, building and repairing furniture, and even fixing cars is actually really fun--especially when our Dads teach us how to be pros. I would have so much fun helping my Dad when he would build various items, even though it was his hobby and not mine.
11. Dads always push us to be better
Just as much as we think our Dads are the coolest, they think we are too. Even when we fall short, they always know how to encourage us to pick back up and start all over. They always make sure we know we are capable of more than we think.
12. Dads will always squish the bugs
I am terrified of bugs. When my dad hears a scream from across the house, he knows by now I have just seen a little devil run across the floor. He always comes to the rescue and kills the bugs because I can never muster up the courage to do it myself.
13. He is also one of your closest pals
Hanging out with Dad is one of the most fun things in the world. Even if it's just watching a movie or having dinner together, somehow it's always one of the best memories I always carry around. It's so awesome that Dads take out time just to "hang out" with us.
14. He is selfless
Dads always put us before themselves. Whether it's rearranging his schedule just to make time for me, to letting me have the T.V. just to binge watch "Gossip Girl," he always puts my interests before his own.
15. Dads are incredible hard workers
My dad works so hard. I literally, actually, truly cannot emphasize enough the extent to which my dad goes to just to reach his goals. It's not only amazing for him and our family, but it sets an inspiring example for me and my siblings. I hope one day my children see me the way I see my dad in that sense.
16. He will always have your back
No matter how old we get or how far away we live, just a quick call to Dad and he will come to the rescue in a heartbeat. Dads rock that way.
So, thanks Dad for all that you do, have done, and continue to do. You deserve to be celebrated not just on Father's Day but every day.
