Pistols Firing!! Bullet runs down the field, the crowd chants, and Ride ‘Em Cowboys echoes throughout the stadium. After the game is finished, arms link around the stadium as fellow OSU fans sway while singing the alma mater. I for one, still get chills whenever this happens.
There are numerous traditions at Oklahoma State University such as Lights on Stillwater, eating free pancakes in the Student Union during finals week, and witnessing the Spirit Walk two hours before kickoff. While there are so many traditions here at this university, I personally believe that attending Cowboy Football games is the best one. Here's why:
1. Tailgating
Everyone loves a good tailgate. No matter what time kickoff is, it's guaranteed that hours before the game there will be tents covering every open surface around Boone Pickens Stadium.
2. The Student Section
You’re not going to encounter such enthusiastic students anywhere else in the country. Every person bleeds orange and gets pumped up for every game. There’s nothing like cheering your team on while being surrounded by your peers and best friends.
3. The Cowbooooyyyyy Marching Band!
This is by far one of the best things during games. Watching the band play is absolutely phenomenal. These talented college students spend so much of their time practicing and memorizing their sheet music as well as the drill charts for each formation. Such dedication should be recognized at every game, as it definitely is.
4. Of course, the football
Now, I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love watching football games. In Boone Pickens Stadium, the games are just… better. We may not always win every game, but watching those Cowboys play is always the best part of the experience.
You never know what Cowboy Football is all about until you actually attend a game and experience it for yourself. It’s the best tradition at Oklahoma State University, and the best memories are made within that stadium. As always, Go Pokes!
