When you're sick you just want to be curled up in your bed at home. Getting sick away at college is the absolute worst. Here are a few reasons why:
1. No one to take care of you
Mom and dad are not at college with you (obvs). Being sick is one of the few times a year when you actually truly appreciate having your parents around. You never realize how much your parents do for you until you are laying on the couch asking them to make you food. But, with them not being able to take care of you at college changes things. That means that you can not lay around all day and have them bring you things. Need tea? Get it yourself. Medicine? Get it yourself. No more asking mommy to cover your frozen toes with a blanket. It's all on you now, kid. It basically takes all the fun of being sick away when you have to feel like crap and take care of yourself. Adulting is the worst; I just want my mom.
2. Classes
You have to make the decision to skip class or not. For some classes, that is easy (you weren't going to go anyway). But, some classes are more of a tricky choice. Will you miss something important? Will there be a pop quiz? Will that cute guy that sits one row over and two seats up decide that's the day he is going to talk to you? And even if you didn't go to class you probably have a mountain of work you need to do. That throws all day movie marathons out the window. Instead, you spend your sick days doing homework. Womp.
3. Food Choices
All you want when sick is some delicious homemade soup. But, you won't find that at the dining hall. The stuff out of the can is just not the same.
4. The Health Center
What a tricky place the health center is. When you're lucky enough to get an appointment you usually come out of there fine. But having to go to the urgent care sucks. No matter where you go you always question their diagnosis and end up self-diagnosis using WebMD anyway. Sore throat? You have cancer.
