Why Being in a Long Distance Relationship in College is Worthwhile

Being from Chicago, making the decision to move across the country to go to school was an extremely difficult one, for a number of reasons. Still, one reason sticks out above the rest. After being in a committed relationship for the majority of high school, it felt like the only question I got from people about school was: "What are you and Paul going to do when you go away to school?" Every time I got asked this, I felt sick to my stomach because I really didn't have a good answer. I didn't know what we were going to do, how we were going to manage the distance. Yet, we've done it. We've gotten through September- April without ever questioning why we stayed together. Because of technology like FaceTime and Skype, we are able to talk face to face nearly every day. Even though things are physically different, nothing about our relationship or about our feelings for each other has changed.

I can't help but remember how petrified I was about trying to maintain our relationship. I honestly was doubtful that we were going to make it. While I was willing to try to make it work, I was terrified. The thought of not being together was something I couldn't bear to see come true. Motivated as I was, all you hear about long distance relationships is that they are hard and never work out.

But, I'm hoping to put an end to this conventional belief. They really can work out. If you are with the right person, there is no reason to think that you won't make it. While it is hard at times, distance shouldn't cause your feelings to change. The opportunity to be with other people shouldn't cause your feelings to change, nothing should alter the way that you feel about each other. Paul and I are living proof that long distance relationships can work out. So, to all you high schoolers that are currently trying to figure out what you and your boyfriend are going to do when you go off to school, take my story into account. As long as you are both willing put in the effort, your relationship will be just fine.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
