Thank goodness. Baseball season is right around the corner. As of this past week, every team officially reported to spring training. This upcoming week, every team will participate in their first spring training games. And within one month, the 2016 MLB Season will begin. For many in the United States, baseball is considered a beautiful past time. For others, it is considered the period of time during which no football is played. Whether you love baseball or not, there is no doubting the fact that baseball season is the best season.
1. Opening Day
Whether you are a fan of the Cardinals, the Cubs, or even the Royals, opening day is one of the most beautiful days in the world. Every team starts anew and there is a brand new hope that this will finally be the year your team brings home that coveted world championship. This is especially true for the fans from the city of Chicago. For other teams, this day is one of celebration and excitement as your team makes their run to win another championship. (Royals) Regardless of what team you are rooting for, this is day for baseball fans is a holiday of sorts. Fans from all over will usher into the cities' streets to cheer on their team for the next 162 games of pure bliss.
2. The Weather
For those baseball fans who reside in the northeastern parts of the United States or those in Colorado, this might be untrue. However, for the rest of of us, the beginning of baseball means the beginning of Spring, which also means we are one step closer to summer. Being able to go to the ballpark in 70 degree weather is one of the most underrated aspects of life. Again, even if you hate baseball, you have to agree that Spring is one of the most wonderful times of the year.
3. The Food
This is one of the more controversial aspects of baseball being so amazing. Ballpark food. On one hand, many people will say that the food at the ballpark is way too expensive and not worth it at all. While you may be right, there is something to be said about experiencing the whole aspect of going to a MLB game. For example, take this wonderful chicken and waffle sandwich that you can find at Busch Stadium in Saint Louis. There is even a rumor that a burger that instead of having buns, will actually have funnel cakes will be making its debut for the Milwaukee Brewers this upcoming season.
4. Going To The Ballpark
I completely agree that watching a game with your family and friends at home is much cheaper and more intimate than going to the ballpark for the game. That being said, nothing beats heading downtown to catch a game at your teams' ballpark. The excitement in the air at every game is breathtaking, (unless you are attending a Phillies or Reds' game) and there is no better feeling in the world than leaving the stadium after your team has a big win.
5. October Baseball
Aside from The World Cup, there is no better sports experience than October baseball. For some reason, everything just seems to come alive and then suddenly, magic happens. This past season, it was the Kansas City Royals pulling off comeback after comeback to win the World Series. In 2011, the Saint Louis Cardinals played in arguably the greatest playoff game of all time when they defeated the Texas Rangers in Game 6 of the World Series in extra innings. And lets not forget about that time in 2004 when the Boston RedSox became the first team to ever overcome a 3-0 deficit in a series. They came back against the Yankees in dramatic fashion and went on to beat the Saint Louis Cardinals in the World Series, ultimately lifting the curse from the franchise. No matter who is involved, somehow, some way, magic always finds its way into the MLB Playoffs.
