Why Aren't We Talking About The American Being Held Captive In North Korea?

Imagine being a 21-year-old student being held captive in a foreign country. All you were doing was visiting a country and traveling like any other young student wants to do, and next thing you know you're in a jail cell.

This is the said reality for Otto Warmbier. Otto is a 21-year-old student who has been attending the University of Virginia as an undergraduate. He’s known as an outstanding student and having remarkable character. Otto was the salutatorian of his class and always maintained a great social life while having his studies be the first priority.

On January 2nd 2016, Warmbier was arrested while leaving North Korea. His alleged crime was called an "act of hostility against the state" by the North Korean government. On February 29, 2016, he confessed to stealing a piece of North Korean propaganda to take back to the United States as a "trophy" for a person from his hometown church who offered to pay him for it with the gift of a car worth $10,000. The poster said, "Let's arm ourselves strongly with Kim Jong-il's patriotism!" causing harm on such items with the name or image of a leader is considered a serious crime in North Korea.

Fast forward to March 16th, a veteran American diplomat Bill Richardson had flown to North Korea to meet and discuss one of our own being held captive. Otto’s trial had only lasted one hour! Otto had confessed and was reportedly sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in North Korea’s highest court for subversion. During the hearing Warmbier tearfully confessed and plead for his life.

His sentenced came a few weeks after otto had confessed.

His confession reads as follows:

"I never, never should have allowed myself to be lured by the United States administration to commit a crime in this country. I wish that the United States administration never manipulated people like myself in the future to commit crimes against foreign countries. I entirely beg you, the people and government of the DPRK, for your forgiveness. Please! I made the worst mistake of my life!"

As Otto stays in North Korea working and doing hard labor our media has barely covered what has happened as well as how little has been done to get him out of this inhumane country.

The White House asked the North Korean regime to pardon Warmbier.

“Now that Mr. Warmbier has gone through this criminal process, we strongly urge the North Korean government to pardon him and grant him special amnesty and immediate release,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said.

Our politicians and lawmakers are so quick to fight for illegals immigrants who are in our country but they won't go above and beyond for one of our own who's being held captive! We want to save and protect all who's here but we won't go to bat for a young student whose wrongful and harsh conviction.

This case is so much more than just a young man being held in a foreign country. This is a show on our government goes and makes billion dollar deal that gives Iran nuclear weapons, but they won't show how much an American in a foreign country means to them.

Our government needs to wake up and save this man...

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
