I was sitting in my apartment reading the news when I saw that Daily Mail wrote about Olivia Culpo, writing that the jeans she wore showcased " her impressive thigh gap ."
But why are we praising her impressive thigh gap? Sure, she is a very beautiful young woman, but praising the thigh gap can be dangerous, especially for younger girls who look up to these celebrities and fashion icons.

These days, girls look up to these celebrities and want to mirror their physical attributions. That can be dangerous. It can cause girls to develop eating disorders, like anorexia and bulimia, in order for them to get that "impressive" thigh gap. This is basically Thinspiration, the inspiration to be thin. If you type that in on Pinterest, up pops a warning about anorexia and bulimia.
The thing that makes a thigh gap is your bone structure. It's not about being skinny or dieting to the extreme. Thigh gaps have led to extreme dieting, eating disorders (mentioned above) and even reconstructive surgery. Surgery? Crazy, right? That is what our society has led to. Just to put this out there, I do have friends that have a thigh gap, but it's because of their bone structure. Trust me, I've seen them eat. They eat as much as I do.
Instead of praising something some girls will never have in their life, our society needs to praise the quality of healthy eating and exercise, as well as helping girls to accept the bodies they were born with. A body is a body. It's the soul that makes the body and person come to life. I can relate a little bit to this subject, because I was a fan of Eleanor Calder, who is the ex-girlfriend of Louis Tomlinson from One Direction, and I wanted to look like her.
I did somewhat change my eating and exercise in a way that was healthier for me. That's how powerful one little detail can be to someone else. I looked at vegetables and salads more, and I started walking and hitting the gym more. That is how we should take care of our bodies, instead of starving them to become skinny. We need to take care of our bodies and become comfortable in our own skin. Girls should look up Fitspiration. It's all about promoting the element of being fit and healthy. In my opinion, strength is sexy.

My point is that the entertainment industry highlights things many young girls can't have, and that needs to change ASAP. We need to stop praising the whole idea that you have be thin in order to be beautiful. In my mind, being beautiful is loving yourself and your body to the fullest. The fashion industry is making a change by having curvier girls on the runway, which is amazing! That is what we need. We need to bring confidence to the table. I know it's hard, but in the end it's so worth the battle. But you're not alone. You have friends and family to lean on for help and guidance 24/7.
Let's change the society that we live in.
