It always brings me pleasure finding a good movie or episode on television, but the only downfall is the dreadful commercials I have to endure.
Naturally, our generation of millennials have now found solace in Netflix or Hulu in an effort to escape these miserable minutes of utter agony. I often find that the only solution I have is to record shows and watch them at a later time so I can happily fast forward through commercials.
With more free time during the Summer and the arrival of the Olympics, I began watching the Rio Summer Olympics in real-time. To my surprise, I was greeted with inspirational and touching clips about unity, love and perseverance. I found this to be the antithesis of the idiotic attempts company's have of selling a product, but fall atrociously short.
I was particularly drawn to Apple's advertisement promoting its advanced camera abilities.
Aside from scanning through beautiful pictures taken with an iPhone camera, the company played a recording of Maya Angelou reading her poem "The Human Family." This literary piece and the images shown, depict the connection of all human beings, despite their physiological differences.
Contrary to many other commercials, this one held a larger didactic message which provided a refreshing change and quickly caught my attention because of the insightful words and portraits which held a certain nuance.
I can only hope that future advertisements either strive to be more humorous or highlight a more meaningful point, rather than boring audiences with pitiful media compilations.
