Who We Elected As Our Next President (Part 2)

This is part two of a two part article. You can read part one here.

While Trump has been all around the political board, he has made contributions to campaigns of both Republican Party and Democratic Party candidates, with the favored ten recipients of his political contributions being six Democrats and four Republicans. After 2011, his campaign contributions were more favorable to Republicans than to Democrats matching his party affiliation. In February 2012, Trump endorsed Republican Mitt Romney for President. When asked in 2015 which recent President he prefers, Trump picked Democrat Bill Clinton over the Republican Bush Senior and Bush Jr. Also a New York state reported Trump circumventing corporate and personal campaign donation limits in the 1980's. While the fact remains no laws were broken there is an argument to be made that behavior of the incident should be illegal and is the exact example of legal bribery. Trump told investigators he did so on the advice of his legal advisers. He also said the contributions were not to gain favor with business-friendly candidates, but simply to satisfy requests from friends. I can tell you right now is a load of bull; he bought off politicians his whole life and now he has the keys to the White House.

Now in November 2016, we the American people elected him President after an eight month-long presidential campaign. During his campaign he mocked the physically handicapped, threatened to bomb civilians in other countries, was caught up in multiple sexual molestation accusations, and picked a very anti-gay vice president who does not even believe that smoking kills people. Granted he sometimes spewed a populist rhetoric on the campaign trail which gained the trust of a good portion of his supporters. That being said not all Trump voters are people that had to endure the consequences of bad trade deals and crooked politicians. Examples being the Trans Pacific Partnership and NAFTA. While some of his supporters are ignorant racists who feel out of place in modern America and admired his unruly rhetoric, these individuals are not representative of the American majority. To top that off our crooked electoral system allowed for the place of the electoral college to hand the presidency in a landslide to Donald Trump despite him not receiving the majority of the popular vote.

While we have 1,457 days to decide our next President, we should take those many hours to reflect on what problems America still face as a country. A history of racism and hate which seems to grow and manifest in certain American households. While the answer may simply be more education the implementation of these ideas are not so easily accomplished. The coming future will present many challenges and adversity to many different groups of people we must keep our values high and our minds focused, but to best summarize the mindset we should keep during this fight for the American way is best said by former president Theodore Roosevelt:

"Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground". -Theodore Roosevelt (1904)

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
