There are people that need others and people that need to be needed by others. We are all both at some point. But there are some people who really thrive off feeling like they are needed. Needing to be needed. It sounds odd, but it is something that I relate to very deeply. Is it a struggle or a blessing? I would argue it's both. Here are 5 things that you'll relate to if you're someone who needs to be needed.
1. People asking you for favors gives you joy
Some would roll their eyes and groan at a friend asking them to pick them up from somewhere. And then there's us, those that love to be needed, that are more than happy to do someone a simple favor like pick them up/take them somewhere.
2. Loving hearing your friends call you "mom"
This is kind of weird, maybe, but so sweet. Moms are awesome so for someone to compare you to a mom is honestly the ultimate compliment.
3. Absolutely hating having to depend on someone else
It's so weird. Other people depending on you is a great feeling. But feeling even the tiniest bit of dependency on another person is killer. This is one of the flaws I find in needing to be needed. It's okay to need to lean on others at times. It really is.
4. Loving kids
Children are very dependent. They need help with lots of little things, so if you love being needed, you probably love kids as well. Reaching something on the top shelf for them is anything but an inconvenience. Helping them pronounce that super complicated word is a great feeling to you.
5. Listening to other people vent/explain/talk about anything is one of your favorite things
Tell me what fuels your passion. Tell me what breaks your heart. Having people open up with you is such an honor. Listening to other people speak is anything but a bother.
I understand that needing to be needed is a dependency in itself. I really do. I also understand that there are problems that come with this. I'm not trying to say that needing to be needed is a super wonderful thing but I think if it is not too an extreme, it's a pretty good thing. Think of it more as "thriving off helping others".
