Life Isn't That Bad

We should be proud of ourselves.

Let's be real, guys. Life currently isn't so bad. I know we live in a society that has become very dependent on mainstream media and news. It makes sense, there are so many people in the world that outlets for information seem to be vital. However, I think with the American relationship with capitalism, the motives have shifted and distorted themselves.

But think about it, not even 400 years ago, people were dying in the streets and no one did a thing; bodies would literally rot in front of people while they went about their normal lives. Think about all the brutal wars with savage tactics of just sending men to their inevitable death. Let's think about World War 1, which was probably one of the worst wars of all time. Strictly because of the emphasis on biological warfare. People wanted people to die in the worst ways. Mustard Gas? No thanks. 50 years ago, gangs plagued America and factually, these men all were of Caucasian decent.

Today, however, we have advanced hospitals. Aside from the slight corruption in our police force, we have active public servants that are dutifully going out and performing. We have the ability to access information and knowledge to better ourselves and every day, we make this more and more essential. We literally have the ability to do whatever we want, even with unfortunate circumstances, people can still make something of themselves.

If the majority really understood even the basic rhetoric of history classes, we would all know that today's lifestyles are far more superior than they have ever been.

What I dislike is how the media has turned on the majority and entered a phase of manipulation to justify narrow-minded beliefs.

Times are a changing. We know this and those in power realize this as well. Except they don't really want to embrace this change like the rest of us. So with the pumping of money into the system of mainstream media, we find ourselves in a pickle of paranoia and terror. This "War on Terrorism" isn't real because Americans are choosing to respond to terrorism with terrorism and that itself won't ever solve itself. You and I both know this. I think the social warriors of current day society are being amplified to cover up the real problems the people in charge have created.

We're waking up. We are beginning to understand that through simple life changes and acknowledgments that life is actually really good right now. Worrying isn't worth it anymore and it's out of date. Research is available to anyone and it's as easy as it gets; just go on your phone and type whatever you want into Google. Even that is so righteous. We have that ability.

Just stop and breath. Think about how good it really is. The entertainment industry, the traveling, the connections, the communication and sociability that technology presents. Life is good. Life is really good. No need to stress, guys.

It's only going to get better.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
