The Disease Of Our Generation

We're all grown up now Generation Y, it's now or never.

You know what they say, old habits die hard.

Our bad habits have got to go. We are digging a hole deeper and deeper for ourselves. It is time we made a change, not only for ourselves but for the generations to come. Would you be happy if your children and grandchildren were living in a generation like ours? The "soft" generation? The generation that expects everything to be handed to them? A generation that is frowned upon by society?

I think the main problem is the way we see the world. We expect so much out of it, but what you and I have failed to realize is that the world owes us nothing. I think that is one of the biggest problems we are facing, the world. This society we are living in is only bringing us down. It's funny how everyone asks us to be ourselves, but when we do that we are judged.

Another major issue for our generation is our parents. They want nothing more than to see us happy and give us a better lifestyle than what they might have had, but some are taking it too far. We're all spoiled and we have all become used to being spoon fed. I'm very guilty of this myself but I truly believe it is something we all need to work on.

Our parents are not the only ones at fault, society is also the culprit. Most people our age have never stepped foot into the workforce, and that is a major issue as well. We don't know how to work for what we want because we are so used to it being handed to us. The real world is a rough place and if we do not take a step back and try to better prepare ourselves, we are all going to have a hard time adjusting when we leave the confines of our parent's homes.

Another problem we have is social media and cell phones. We are so technology obsessed that we are losing the ability to actually sit down and talk face-to-face with someone. I'd be willing to bet you're on your phone now as your reading this, and I'd be even more willing to bet that you saw this article through Facebook or some other form of social media. We don't even watch the news anymore. The cell phone applications and the internet come in handy but we are getting too used to it. When something happens in our world, we all learn it though the grapevine of social media. We literally have the world at or fingertips, and I believe that is a blessing and a curse. Although I do think social media is helpful for families and friends in means of keeping up with each other, it is doing more harm than good. What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Do you go out, get the paper, sit down and read it? Nope. Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, repeat. Am I right? Just being 100% honest here, I have never once, in my 20 years of living, woke up and not checked my cell phone. Our generation is going to be in a world of hurt if something ever happens to our electronics.

I hope that this will reach out to my friends and everyone else in my age group. If we do not make a change, we will one day hit rock bottom. We could lose everything in the blink of an eye, what are you going to do to prepare yourself?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
