When You're From A Small Town...

When You're From A Small Town...
  1. When people ask where you're from, your response is usually, "you've probably never heard of it." And the majority of the time they haven't.
  2. It's a ghost town after 9 pm. Are you curious to see what's poppin' in town on a Friday night? Be prepared to be disappointed. The only people you'll see is the one cop on duty and the few people in the library parking lot getting Wi-Fi.
  3. Riding backroads is considered a date. When there's nothing in your town to do, riding backroads is the go-to plan. Turn your music up and enjoy the ride. It's really not as bad as it sounds.
  4. Everybody knows everything about everybody. If you think you have secrets, you're wrong.
  5. If you walk into the basketball game with someone of the opposite sex, be prepared to be the talk of the town. You're family will have your wedding planned by that night.
  6. A quick five minute trip to Dollar General turns into an hour and a half because you see at least five people you know that have the new gossip.
  7. Your Nana informs you that the boy you have a crush on is actually your third cousin.
  8. If Mom is late picking you up from school, one of the teachers drops you off at home. We trust each other way too much. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.
  9. High School dating is awkward because there's a good chance their ex is one of your friends.
  10. If someone is sick or in the hospital, you best believe they'll be on every prayer list in the town.
  11. Fast food doesn't exist. You're either eating a frozen pizza or ramen noodles unless you want to drive 30 minutes out of the way.
  12. Lawnmowers are considered vehicles.
  13. The only traffic you'll run into is if you get stuck behind a tractor on the highway.
  14. Cops pull you over because they're bored and have nothing else to do.
  15. Your town is your family. No matter where you go or what you do in life, you'll always have a huge support system back at home. My roots run deep in my small town, and I am forever thankful.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
