When one door closes, another one opens.
I know it sounds totally cliché, but it’s true. One of my favorite sayings is, “When one door closes, another one opens.” Behind this seven word phrase, there is such a deeper meaning that I relate to in life.
First off, I am a Christian, and I do believe God has his best interest in me. I wanted to say that because that is an important part of who I am. Don’t worry, this isn’t one of those posts that challenges your faith or anything like that.
Now that we have that out of the way, recently I have had a lot of things in my life just go on a downhill spiral. I won’t get into too much detail unless you ask, but there was a point when all I could think was “wow, my whole world has turned upside-down. What’s the next bad thing that will happen?” Yeah, it’s crazy that so much happened in one month, but I never gave up on hope.
When I was down, it was pretty difficult to see anything other than my upside-down world. Which this behavior is typical of course. I felt lost and thrown into the unknown. Personally, I deal with anxiety and depression, so I do take things personally, I do reflect on my life choices every second of the day, and I do bottle up my feelings until I break.
The only way I have gotten through a difficult life moment, is through hope and faith. I believe that good things can happen even in the midst of darkness. When you deal with hard times, you really do appreciate the good things in life. It doesn’t have to be fancy. In fact, if you woke up this morning, be happy. If you had a nice cup of coffee and a great breakfast, be thankful that you have that. If you friends and family who are there to catch you when you fall, tell them you love them. Don’t let one moment pass where you don’t value the good things in life.
Going through the hard times has made me appreciate the good things in life. I believe that life is like a mountain. You climb to the top, and sometimes you fall. The important thing is to get back up. Sure, you failed, but don’t let that stop you from trying. On your way to the top, you will realize the amazing things that can happen in your life.
So, when one door closes, peruse the next door. The next door will open as long as you have hope. Within the past week, I have had so many blessings happen. I have also reflected and valued on the best times of my life. Don’t give up. Keep on trying, and eventually a door will open. Here is another cliché phrase. “Life is not a box chocolates.” It will have ups and downs, but that’s just a reminder that we are only human. So what are you going to do when one door closes? Will you continue to believe that another amazing door/opportunity will open?
