When It Catches Up With You

For you, when life is tossed in the air with no designated landing

When it catches up with you

You will see

Nothing lasts forever

Only for a beat.

When it catches up with you

You will find

That not all souls

Can speak their mind.

At least not like you.

Not in the same way

Space

Or Time.

You be enlightened by the way someone decides to leave

The words they weave,

The stride they choose,

The door they use,

When it catches up with you.

Even the ones that were supposed to last forever

A part of them will drift,

A part of them will grow tired

And a part of them will wish to be free

From you.

You've given them everything.

All of it.

All of you.

All that you've given them was enough for the moment,

But not for their lifetime.

But you must grow to understand

You must learn to be fine,

You must accept.

They are allowed to feel

What they do.

When it catches up with you

You will learn

Not everyone feels like you do,

To the depth that you do.

When it catches up with you

You will find

It is nearly impossible to clear your mind.

You will try to be okay

Keep the pain of the absence at bay.

You will forget your strength.

You will forget how much you had because you gave it to them.

You gave it all to them.

When it catches up with you

When the reality hits,

The wake arrives.

When your dream is interrupted

And you are suddenly free falling

And you gasp so hard

Your body forces your mind to stop

Stop hanging on to what was

And throws you in to what your life is now.

When it finally catches up with you

All you are left with

Is you.

And for you

I hope that you

Choose to carry on

Even though they are gone,

You are not.

There may be a pain in your heart

And an ache in your bones

When you think about

What once was

Know that it will pass

Just as time does

And just as it will continue to do so.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
