Winter is the most exciting season and Christmas is the best holiday because you're surrounded with family and friends, you get presents, eat good food, and dress pretty. However, sometimes Christmas gives you more of a headache when it's actually supposed to de-stress you. These are some ways that could beat the exciting atmosphere of your holiday.
1. You're not going home.
Christmas is a wonderful time for family reunion. But because you’re working or studying abroad and a plane ticket is expensive, you’re pitifully celebrating Christmas with a few friends or relatives in a foreign country. You miss taking pictures in front of the Christmas tree with mom and dad, opening gifts on Christmas Eve and getting jealous when your sister has better presents.
2. You’re single or suffering from a long distance relationship.
“All I Want For Christmas Is You”
Whether you’re single or you’re far from your loved one, Christmas can be really sad and depressing. You will find yourself jealous of couples hand in hand and you wish you had someone who would hold your hand while walking through the snow, or kiss you underneath the mistletoe. Christmas is in a cold season, so everyone needs someone else to warm their hearts.
3. “Santa Claus” does not deliver the right gift.
It's not all the time you get the present you always wish for. Your aunt could give you the same sweater she bought last year or your grandmother doesn't notice that now you're already an adult so you don't play with Barbie dolls anymore.
4. Your family keeps asking about school and grades.
You've been in school for too long and you were trying to avoid your mom's questions about grades. But now you're face-to-face with them and you can no longer escape from it.
5. The food turns bad.
Who isn’t excited for food? Winter break is also a break from campus food. Having bad food for Christmas night could bring you disappointment.
6. You spend too much.
Whether it's on buying other people's presents, buying decorations for your house, or shopping, you will find yourself broke or nearly broke after the holiday.
7. You’re eating too much.
Winter break is also a break from campus food. You've been craving real food for months already, so now you can actually eat, and it's hard to control the temptation.
8. You can’t get the decorations right.
Planning gifts for each person, decorating the Christmas tree, putting up lights, etc. can be really stressful because you wonder what way you can make your house look different and impressive. And sometimes your kids or pets can mess up the whole masterpiece that you've spent hours working on.
9. Church
Sometimes church can seem like it's never going to end. Or it's even worse when you're an atheist and you're always forced to go to church with your family.
10. Cleaning up aftermath
Cooking for Christmas is already exhausting, but cleaning the mess afterwards is more stressful, from washing the dishes, to taking down the Christmas tree, to preparing for New Years.
