Sometimes I get into the habit of settling when I don't get something I want. I know I shouldn't settle, but sometimes I can't help it. With this, I have learned that it's OK to have high standards; this goes for careers, relationships, friendships, etc. I know what I deserve in life and I know that I want to be happy, to be successful in whatever I do and that I deserve to have a relationship with someone who I can be myself with and that will respect me for everything that I am.
It's really hard to find this. It's scary to open up to someone, to share your feelings and to be who you are without fear of judgement. When you find a girl/guy who accepts you for you, keep them around, even if it isn't meant to be at least you know that they are a good person with a good heart.
If you have a friend, a person you're dating, a person that you like that does any of these things, hold on to them and never let them go:
Someone who makes you feel wanted and secure. Hunter Hayes said it right in his song "Wanted." I think we all need our own Hunter Hayes.
Someone who makes sure that you get home safe. It's great when someone cares not only for their own safety, but for the safety of others. A huge shout-out to the people who tell me to text them when I'm home safe. Those people are a blessing and we need to have more people like this in our lives.
Someone who looks at you like there's nobody else in the room. They only have eyes for you and when they see you, it's as if their world has stopped.
Someone who wants to hear about your day and not just to make conversation, but because they genuinely want to hear what you did, what you talked about, what made you laugh.
Someone who isn't scared to have you. If they can admit that they miss you and they can handle your flaws and still like you for you at the end of the day, that is someone you need to keep around.
We are all people with real feelings and emotions. We can't convince someone to treat us with respect because that shouldn't take convincing. If you're feeling that you don't deserve something good, tell yourself that you are a prize. Everyone deserves the good things that come to them in life. I think that if you have someone who does these things and makes you feel happy, let it happen. Life is short. Wouldn't you rather feel something rather than not feeling anything at all?
