June 6, 2016 at 3 pm is coming closer and closer. So many emotions have happened in my last full week of high school alone. Walking through the halls, you realize, most of these people I will never have to see again. Some, you're happy about, others, not so much. But above everything, the experiences you have come across during your senior year of high school have been a blessing. Personally, each year of high school I have a vivid memory of, and each of the four years have brought so many emotions to me I had no clue even existed. I'll start from the first day I walked into school, till now, reflecting on my high school career.
Freshman Year
The first day of freshman year is an emotional rollercoaster, and nothing but running around the school trying to find someone that seems nice enough to take time out of their day to show you to a class. Walking into a school where you may or may not know people is a stressful situation. For me, the school I went to fed directly into a high school. I knew the middle schoolers who went to the previous school, however being surrounded with multiple other faces may give others some trouble. High school is nothing like they portray it in movies. While yes, there may be cliques, your first day, when people find out you're a freshman, chances are they will not try and "trashcan" you. Walking into your first day of high school, there should be motivation burning in your heart and your eyes. Get involved. Nothing is better than keeping busy in school, staying away from things that you shouldn't be doing. High school is a time that really matters, a time where you cannot slack off.
Sophomore Year
Sophomore year is the time where you're finally getting settled. This is the time where you begin to find lifelong friends. Drama is always going to be in high school sadly, but finding a couple friends who want you to succeed and do big things with your life is the way to go. I'd rather have 4 quarters, than 100 pennies. The real and the fake are eventually exposed to the light, where your actions shall reflect accordingly. There is absolutely no reason to keep people around just to keep them around. If they dont help you better yourself while bettering themselves, chances are they're not the friends for you. Surrounding yourself with positive, motivating, goal striving individuals is your best bet. Before anything, realize that your biggest support system is your family, don't let them down.
Junior Year
Junior year is when things begin to look more towards your future, senior year and your freshman year in college. At this point, you've gotten the hang of high school, and probably wanting to just get out of there and start life. Slow down, and cherish this year, because senior year is a whole different learning experience. Throughout junior year, there will most likely be multiple meetings with your counselors, figuring out what classes you need to make sure you're on track to graduate, as well as constantly preaching about scholarships. Listen to what your counselors have to say, they have your best interest at hand. This is also a time where grades genuinely matter. Most colleges look at your transcript as a whole, however, junior and senior year is usually the most looked at, colleges love to see growth.
Senior Year
Senior year is such a bittersweet year of your life. This is the year you reflect and realize the people that have been apart of your life for four years. Due to the fact I transferred to a new school my sophomore year, I was unable to spend 4 years with my best friend, only 3. But those three years with her have been nothing but positivity and motivating each other to do better. Your senior year you may want to slack off, but every little choice you make within this year, reflects on your future, so choose wisely. Senior year is full of applying to colleges and scholarships, wanting to give up and realizing you can't, and lots and lots of busy work from teachers. It's all worth it though. I can genuinely testify that I have attained more knowledge in this year alone than anything. Scholarships, the work you put in, is what you will get out. I can count numerous times staying up until 1 am just to finish a scholarship. No amount is too less, 500 dollar scholarships do add up fast, and make such a huge difference.
Here I am now, writing this to help out anyone and everyone that may be nervous about entering their next year of high school, or even those whom have graduated and are moving onto bigger and better things. Remember, the work is worth it.
