There’s nothing like witnessing an NBA game in person. When you get to your designated seat, you start to understand the nuances behind the game, as well as how amazing each athlete is on court!! If you’ve never been to a game before, do yourself a favor and grab a couple of tickets with me to your local team. And if you are planning to going for the first time this season, let me give you a few tips on what to expect.
1. How Early Should I Arrive?
You should arrive at least 40 minutes before and always drive to the stadium instead of taking of train or bus. I went with my cousins and left late from my house. We were going to the Hawks versus Spurs game and it starts at 3pm. We decided to park at the Marta station and take the train to the arena. That was the worst mistake because we arrived at Phillips arena during Halftime. If you get there at least an hour earlier, you have time to park your car, stand in line for security/entry, and get yourself food and drinks.
2. Concessions?
When me and my cousins went to the game at half-time, we were very hungry and decided to look at the concessions. However if you're been to any live event, you know how concessions are. They are not certainly cheap but, hey this is a special occasion so have a good time. We checked at the stadium’s signature food and got that. Even though it’s expensive, it’s worth it as it’s all part of your first NBA game experience.
3. Disconnect With The Social Media:
I know that we live in a world where social media reins king. However, you just spent good money on your game tickets and it’s your first time going. So, enjoy that moment. I documented the game on my Instagram and snapchat and then I put my phone away. So, use your phone to document this moment, but after that put it away!!! And if you get there earlier, take your selfies and posts during the pre-game warmups.
4. Halftime-Talent:
This is probably the most unpopular tip I give you. People use halftime as an excuse to go to the bathroom, grab food and drinks, and avoid watching the halftime performances. But, many of the halftime shows employs people with unique talents- for example, since me and my cousins came during halftime, we saw the Martin Luther King march, throwing shirts out to the audience ,and the kiss-cam. So take a couple minutes to support and appreciate the halftime talent.
